Empire of Sports is an online multi sports MMOG. The game offers the ability to play as an athlete in a fictional world where only the worlds of sports are of interest. Your character will need training and practice to succeed in specific sports, at the beginning he will be generally healthy but not very skilled in any sport. The more practice your character receives, the higher the achievements he can reach in different areas of sports, depending on his abilities. There are no fixed classes in Empire of Sports, depending on how different muscle areas are trained and how much experience you have in different sports, your characters performance may vary. The goal of the game is to become a star and maybe even dominate the sports world with your club.
- A unique combination of sports-base gameplay and MMO social conventions
- Six Sports to Choose From: Ski, Tennis, Bobsled, Football, Basketball, and Track & Field
- Character Creation: Design a unique character and develop their athletic prowess
- Huge Persistent World: Entire cities lie outside of your sports arena, based on real-world territories like Britain, France, and Dubai
Empire of Sports is a rare title that attempts to merge sports-based gameplay with the social conventions of MMOs. After designing a unique athlete, players develop their characters by practicing, participating in matches, and joining special event and playoff games.
Empire of Sports provides a surprisingly robust character creation system, allowing players to choose from a variety of character sizes, skin tones, clothing, and hairstyles. The options provided are more than enough to ensure that players can create a specialized avatar that can interact with other unique characters, as well as encouraging investment in your character. Further upgrades such as clothing can be purchased via in-game shops, helping characters stand out further.
Athletes can participate in six sports: Ski, Tennis, Bobsled, Football, Basketball, and combination Track and Field events. Each game offers a specific gameplay experience with slightly altered control schemes. Once an official match between players has begun, Empire of Sports manages to immerse players fairly effectively through arena-based music and sound effects, and even spectator cheers and reactions. Detailed tutorials and practice modes are also available for players to come to grips with the game before joining other players.
When not participating in matches, Empire of Sports offers a surpisingly detailed social world for players to engage with. Three in-game cities are currently available, each based on a real-world territory: France, the UK, and Arabia (Dubai). The cities can be accessed by leaving your sports arena, where players will find detailed city environments, shops, clubs, and NPCs. The player can even access mini-games, such as shooting galleries and dance competitions, each of which can also be completed with fellow players. Unfortunately, since most players are completing sports matches at any given time, the streets can feel very empty for a supposedly social experience.
All told, developer F4 has put their best foot forward with a game that marries sports-based gameplay with the social conventions of MMOs. Anyone looking for a well-crafted non-combat game, sports fan or otherwise, should consider Empire of Sports.
