About the Game

The world of Guild Wars 2 is a harsh one. Five Elder Dragons, sleeping beneath the world, have awoken since the time of Guild Wars, causing widespread destruction and chaos and throwing the dominant races of the world into disarray. In these troubled times, you'll adventure as one of five unique races and eight classes through private, instanced chapters that tell a personal story - your story. Each decision you make has an impact on the direction of the story, and of your personalized "home instance" in your character's racial capital.

Combat in Guild Wars 2 is fast, flexible and dynamic, and it's timing and quick thinking, not invisible number-crunching, that will carry the day. Tactical positioning is vital, and environmental objects from wine bottles to siege golems can give you an advantage against your opponents. The varied skill system is easy to learn and lets you customize your character as you like, with racial, healing, profession and elite skills that you'll acquire as you play. And you don't have to go it alone: teaming up with other players lightens the load and allows spectacular combo attacks.

There are eight different professions in the world of Guild Wars 2 - Warrior, Thief, Elementalist, Engineer, Guardian, Ranger, Mesmer and Necromancer - but they all have one thing in common: a talent for battle. Each brings unique powers and devastating attacks to the field, and whether you prefer the blade, the bow or mastery of the supernatural, you'll find a profession that suits your style.

Guild Wars 2 boasts huge, instanced dungeons that unfold first in "story mode" and then, once completed, in "explorable mode," which opens new versions of the dungeon, with new areas to explore and challenges to overcome. But there's plenty of competitive play too; player vs. player matches pits small teams against each other on objective-based maps in both quick, casual brawls and organized tournament events, while world vs. world battles are truly massive affairs, in which hundreds of players representing entire servers engage in week-long wars on four sprawling maps.

Each WvW map - one for each server plus a "neutral" central map - is filled with objectives that earn points for the team that holds them. You'll lay siege to castles, raid caravans behind enemy lines and do battle with the forces of your foes, gaining experience and loot as you go. And when your team performs well or wins a WvW match, everyone on the victorious side will earn special bonuses and perks.

Guild Wars 2 offers both the social interactions of an MMO with the player-driven story of a great single-player RPG. With its unique setting, personalized story told through instanced dungeons and encounters, dynamic events, and truly epic PvP warfare, Guild Wars 2 is a living, breathing fantasy world like no other.
