About the Game

Gunz: The Duel is set in an alternate world where fantasy and magic played a role in the Industrial Revolution. After the end of a decades-long conflict between the Republic of Travia and the Axium Empire, an age of peace has begun. The DMZ between the two nations is finally accessible to the public, opening up its hidden treasures. The player is an adventurer heading into this territory for fame and fortune, facing challenges from mysterious threats and fellow adventurers alike.

GunZ was one of the first MMO shooters on the market, and remains active today thanks to its fast-paced action gameplay. Players can perform a variety of over-the-top physical moves during combat, such running along walls, tumbling, diving from high ledges. Outside of guns, melee weapons like swords are available, which players can even use to block incoming bullets. The game's exaggerated actions are a great part of its appeal, having far more in common with arena shooters than MMOs.

GunZ has an impressive array of gameplay modes to choose from, the most popular of which are Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. Also included is a co-operative Quest Mode, in which players work together to fight monsters and bosses. Up to four players can complete this mode together, and will be rewarded with temporary items that cannot otherwise be purchased from the in-game store. Rounding off the gameplay modes are Gladiator, Team Gladiator, and Assassination.

Despite a backstory that is reminiscent of fantasy industrial steampunk, GunZ style is decidely modern. Character's clothing is conventional, while GunZ firearms are far more automated than one would presume for the industrial period. The fact that GunZ backstory doesn't line up with its gameplay shouldn't hinder, since its experience is an entertaining one that holds up even today.
