About the Game

In Lineage II, players to choose from eight different races - Knight, Warrior, Rogue, Archer, Wizard, Summoner, Enchanter or Healer - and six races - Human, Elf, Dark Elf, Orc, Dwarf and Kamael - as they embark upon adventures across a land in turmoil. Combat is the focus of the game, and the primary means by which your character will advance in level, skills and power. Monsters to slay can be found in fields and dungeons outside of town, and quests can be given by NPCs, who will also buy and sell items and occasionally even offer advice to players. And when the time is right, there are epic, multi-stage raids to undertake, one of which allows literally hundreds of players to participate simultaneously against a single boss.

But PvP is where the real excitement is. Outside of certain areas designated "Peace Zones," players can attack and be attacked by their fellows. A reputation system helps keep mass murderers to a minimum, however, as attacking too many non-aggressive players can make a character Chaotic. Chaotic characters cannot use shop services, and town guard NPCs attack them on sight.

Flying solo is exciting, but membership in a clan has its privileges. Clans can have up to 220 members, who earn ranks and enjoy custom titles; clans of sufficient rank and membership can declare war on other clans, or just kick back and get social in customizable clan halls. Even better, clans can also sign up to take part in Castle Sieges, scheduled and protected PvP events featuring battles against player and NPC-controlled clans for control of one of the game's nine castles. Castle Sieges take place on a bi-weekly basis and confer special bonuses and items to clan members who hold a castle. But clans can only hold one castle at a time, and those castles that aren't held by players are occupied by NPC forces - there are no freebies here. There are also Fortress Sieges, battles similar to Castle Sieges over the game's fortresses, that provide special bonuses of their own.

Lineage II is "Truly Free," meaning that all game content is available to everyone, without restrictions, and without ever having to pay. Optional material that will help the journey through game, like boosts, potions and buffs, plus cosmetic items, special pets and more, can be purchased through the L2 Store, but none of it is necessary - and in fact the Lineage II "Path to Awakening" is a web-based system that helps players advance to higher levels faster than ever, with introductions to "key gameplay systems" and special rewards for achieving levels. And once players hit level 85, eight new character classes with unique skillsets open up to take the game in a whole new direction. With all that - and all "Truly Free" - Lineage II really is an MMO that lets you play your way.
