MechWarrior Online
Basic Information

As a pilot known as a "MechWarrior", you are about to take control of the most powerful mechanical battle units the universe has ever seen: BattleMechs, heavily armored combat platforms that utilize an internal structure similar to a skeleton, along with actuators (joints) and myomers (muscles) that, when combined, take the form of a giant, rough, bipedal humanoid. The game is set in a 1:1 timeline with the BattleTech universe, meaning that the current year 2013 equates to 3050 in BattleTech lore and each day that passes in real life also passes in the game. This means we are on the brink of the upcoming Clan invasion and utilizing the latest in technology available in the 3049 timeframe. And when the Clans come - everything changes.

About the Game

Leading the rebirth of the "giant fighting robot" genre, MechWarrior Online puts you in the cockpit of mighty war machines ranging from fast, nimble scouts to truly massive, plodding machines of ultimate destruction. From a first-person perspective, you'll unleash machine guns, lasers, rockets, particle projectors and more on your opponents in a never-ending struggle for battlefield supremacy - and survival. But being a successful MechWarrior takes more than just guns and guts: One of the game's biggest strengths is the way it gives value to units of all sizes. The 100-ton Atlas may be the most fearsome mech in the field, but it's the small, fast-moving scouts that give commanders the information they need to direct that power. Unlike most mech games, in MechWarrior Online there's a place, and a need, for all classes of mechs.

MechWarrior Online features 16 mechs, four in each class, plus seven (so far) "Hero BattleMechs," specially customized units that provide extra punch, and extra panache, in combat. The game is all PvP, all the time: You'll take these machines into battle against your fellow pilots in eight-on-eight battles on one of five unique maps, each with its own special features. The frigid environment of Frozen City allows for reckless firefights, but the blistering heat of Caustic Valley puts a priority on caution and gives ballistic weaponry a serious edge; the sprawling Alpine Peaks is the largest map in the game, while Forest Colony features hills, rock outcroppings and plenty of places to hide. Six factions are currently represented, the five Great Houses - Davion, Kurita, Steiner, Liao and Marik - plus the Free Rasalhague Republic, but with the clock ticking on the game in real-time, it shouldn't be long before other factions - the Clans - become involved.

The game is free to download and play, and also offers a range of options and enhancements above and beyond the "core experience" for gamers who just can't get enough. Packed with action and tactical depth and set in one of the most famous science-fiction gaming universes of all time, MechWarrior Online is a game that fans of the 'mech combat genre absolutely should not miss.
