SMITE
Basic Information

SMITE is an online battleground between gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. SMITE is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE´s battlegrounds.

  • Be a God! There's everything here from Agni, God of Fire, to Cupid, God of being annoyingly accurate with love arrows. Pick the one you like, and get to smiting!
  • Fight in the arena of your choice, for glory and gold.
  • This is one for the tactical thinkers out there. Being a God doesn't mean you rule the roost; work out whether you'd rather be tank, ranged DPS, or straight-up combat, and play to your skills.
  • Veeeery fast action, and pretty graphical display.

About the Game

"If someone asks you if you're a God, you say YES," a wise man once said, and this is the title that lets you say Yes again and again. The setting's mythic, but that's really just an excuse to pack as many exotic creatures into a battleground as possible. There are several different map types - arena, conquest, domination, joust, and the all-important practice arena - and the key to victory is knowing your God's abilities and special attacks. Avoid getting caught up in the jungle, as that's where monsters spawn, but killing those monsters gets your avatar buffs which will help you in combat. Victories being glory, and also gold, which you can then spend on special items as you level up.

There's a short list of video tutorials, but given the number of Gods out there, you shouldn't rely on these to get you going. The fan-created wiki may be more helpful to new players.

This is a free-to-play title. You start with five gods unlocked, and a random assortment of other gods may also unlock over time, or on random rotation. You'll be paying to unlock the rest, and there's also a microtransactions system for buying new skins for existing deities.

For those of you with long memories, this is the title that sparked off a controversy amongst some members of the Hindu community, for its depiction of some deities - in particular Kali - in what they described as "a pornographic style."
