Welcome to the golden age of exploration! Choose from one of several different nations - Portugal, Spain, England, Netherlands, France and the city state of Venice - and start your career of high adventure on the seas. This is a historically accurate - in broad terms - simulation, so, for example, England's in poor shape at the moment because its biggest trading partner, the Netherlands, is being harassed by military superpower Spain. Expect to do a lot of trading, as well as in-depth plot stuff for your chosen nation.
PvP in this title is given added interest because it can happen under several different circumstances. A Versus battle is ship-to-ship, but happens in more or less friendly waters and can be a training exercise, bounty hunt or feud. A PvP battle is also a naval conflict, but takes place in hostile or lawless waters; there's a significant penalty incurred should you happen to lose, and get plundered, me hearty! Of course if you're the boring sort that just has to be hitting someone with a cutlass, then you can always go ashore and find someone marked with a crossed swords tag. That means they're available for hand-to-hand combat. Bear in mind, if you lose, you'll lose some of your stuff, but winning brings loot! Specifically, your opponent's stuff, but then he shouldn't have been going toe-to-toe with a hero like you. Of course, if you want massive sea battles, no problem; find yourself an Epic Sea Feud, and get stuck in. Your nation needs you!
Ship fanatics rejoice, as there's a bewildering array of vessels available. Though divided into three categories - battle type, adventure type, and trade type - each category contains upwards of 30 different vessels, including the infamous Ghost Ship! Naturally you don't have to be satisfied with off-the-peg; you can upgrade your ship, customizing your carrack or sambuk as you see fit. You do have to be in the right sort of port to get the job done, as the smaller, poorer ports lack the resources and skilled craftsmen to do a proper job.
As for exploration, the world is your oyster. Fancy a trip to Japan? West Africa? Europe? Southeast Asia? You can travel wherever you like, in search of adventure or excellent trading opportunities.
