World of Warplanes is the flight combat MMO action game set in the Golden Age of military aviation. The game will throw players into a never-ending tussle for air dominance. World of Warplanes will allow players to build full-scale careers of virtual pilots offering machines of several key eras, starting from 1930s biplanes and leading up to Korean War jet fighters.
- Fly historically-based aircraft against friends and enemies in frantic matches
- World of Warplanes aims to contain more than 300 different planes at launch
- Tutorial and career mode will get you trained in piloting your warplane.
- Keyboard, mouse, joystick and gamepad are all supported
- Most ground objects will be destroyable
World of Warplanes is the next offering from Wargaming.net, focusing on a different form of vehicular slaughter than the breakout hit MMO World of Tanks. The team hopes dogfighting historically inspired planes from Germany, America and the USSR from the mid-twentieth century proves just as entertaining for players.
In closed beta now, Warplanes plans to offer relatively short multiplayer matches of two teams of pilots pit against each other. Like Tanks, there's a hard limit of 15 minutes on each match, but most typically run about 7 or 8 minutes matches because of the frantic maneuvers of the aircraft.
In each mission, there will also be objectives on the ground for players to destroy, and different classes of planes will be equipped to handle those roles. Fighters concentrate on dogfights, ground attack will concentrate on the ground targets, while heavy fighters will split the difference.
You'll be able to earn experience to buy new flying machines, as well as invest real money for more spots in your garage (hangar?) as well as cosmetic features and special vehicles. As the game gets closer to release, Wargaming.net will let us know more details on the cash store and how it will work, but for now expect World of Warplanes to have the same level of polish Wargaming.net delivered with Tanks.
