About the Game

EVE Online is the only MMO to continuously grow its population year over year since it launched in 2003. There's just something really compelling about flying and upgrading your own spaceship, and engaging in the economic simulation of player psychology the sandbox of EVE Online provides. You can be anything - a loyalist, a freedom fighter, a bounty hunter, a pirate, an industrialist, a researcher - and contribute to your corporation.

You level up your skills a little differently in EVE Online than you do in other MMOs. You can set your character to learn from a skill book bought from an NPC, and the training progresses in real world time even when you aren't logged in. Skills have five ranks, and take varied amount of time to learn, so that learning how to pilot a small ship might take hours whereas getting the top rank in a piloting frigates might take a week or more.

Unlike the traditional MMO model, all of the content in EVE Online is created by the players. Groups of players with the same goals can create corporations to control mining operations and trading of the currency of ISK. Large alliances of corporations can form and sometimes clash over the flow of ISK, with massive ship to ship battles with thousands of combatants, but all of this happens with little or no influence from CCP. The designers created the sandbox, and the players can play in it.

The impact of the upcoming addition of Dust 514 into the EVE Online universe is yet to be determined. The MMOFPS exclusive to Sony's PS3 and the PS Vita will let players act as mercenaries in ground-based attacks between corporations and get paid for their services in ISK.
