About the Game

The War Z promises an MMO game that zombie fans have wanted for years: A huge open-world post-apocalypse where players scavenge for resources while defending themselves from zombies and humans alike. Despite the massive elephant in the room of War Z's poor reviews and missing release features, many of those problems are rooted in a rushed "Foundation" launch. The principles behind The War Z remain sound, despite its initial execution, and players can find a tense survival experience waiting for them online.

The game's starting world is "Colorado", with future environments planned by Hammerpoint. The player spawns with no weapons or supplies, and will need to scavenge for them among nearby towns and farms. Beyond the obvious need of finding weapons for survival, food and water are also necessary as characters begin to starve if they haven't eaten for long. This is easier said than done however, as these locations are also focal points for AI-controlled zombies, not to mention other players looking for supplies themselves.

While The War Z has no particular story to speak of, there are scattered notes that can explain what's happened to the world. Such notes can also impact gameplay, hinting at supply stashes hidden in the game world. Most narrative is self-generated through the player's own experience and encounters with other survivors.

The War Z's alpha garnered a largely positive reaction from reviewers who wanted to see more when various bugs and features were ironed out. As a "Foundation Release" with new features released over time, that feeling is one that many still have. Thankfully, the game is buy-to-play with no subscription fees, and will supports all future updates, so players should see the game change over the course of future developments. If that prospect intrigues you, then The War Z is available now for your zombie survival needs.
