About the Game

As a sequel, StarCraft II requires very little introduction. The original wasn't just a formative sci-fi game, it was one of the most popular RTS titles of all time, to the point of legitimizing professional videogame tournaments worldwide. That set a pretty high bar for StarCraft II, but Blizzard knocked it out of the park by adding enhanced graphics, the overhauled Battle.net, and a critically-acclaimed single-player campaign to the classic RTS experience.

StarCraft II strongly adheres to its classic base-building roots in a continuing battle between three science-fiction races. The technologically advanced Protoss, the hive-minded Zerg, and the versatile Terrans all construct units and collect resources across various in-game environments, each trying to dominate the others along the way. As in StarCraft, all three species remain tightly balanced, with strengths and weaknesses perfectly complimenting each other. This allows StarCraft II players to choose from a variety of approaches, whether deploying incredibly powerful Protoss weapons, or unleashing a massive Zerg swarm onto opponents.

If the prospect of replaying StarCraft matches under a new engine isn't enough for you, there's also the many third-party modifications. Blizzard has released a sophisticated StarCraft II campaign, map, and mod editor that lets players design and download a wealth of new content to the game. The editor is even capable of transforming StarCraft II into a shooter, MOBA, or RPG, with all content made available to the online community. Between these features and Blizzard's own official expansions, fans of online RTS games will find much to enjoy in StarCraft II.
