DarkEden is a throwback to the golden age of MMORPGs, featuring classic hack-and-slash action and isometric 2D visuals. Set in the fictional eastern European country of Eslania, players choose between three available races, including vicious Vampires, human Slayers and beastly Ousters, then battle for control of Eslania. Each race has distinctive gameplay mechanics and methods for character progression, such as the Vampire's need to drink blood to gain experience points.
- Isometric hack-and-slash action with thousands of other players
- Macabre setting brings the neo-Gothic world of the undead to "life"
- Distinctive features and skills makes each faction truly unique
- Fight your enemies in nearly-unrestricted PvP combat, then go to war for your faction in weekly Bible Wars
DarkEden is an isometric, PvP_heavy, massively-multiplayer online action-RPG set in a near-future war between Vampires, Slayers and the mysterious, powerful Ousters. Players earn rank and alignment points by killing monsters and other players, and can also gain Fame through success in combat and "Contribution" points for their factions by participating in wars. Clans add a social element to the game, simplifying the process of finding friendly players to chat and party with, and of course to fight with as well.
In an unusual twist, each of the three factions advances through the game differently. Ousters gain experience by killing monsters, while Vampires actually gain most of their experience by draining the blood of enemies. The Slayers don't actually use the experience system at all, but instead become more powerful by increasing their skills. The time of day also has an impact on combat, as monsters and Vampires are easier to kill during daylight hours but much tougher to take down at night.
One of DarkEden's central components are Bible Wars. There are 12 Bibles in all, each of which offers a unique power to whoever holds it, and every Saturday and Sunday, players must fight on the Holy Fields of Adam for possession of the Bibles. Each race has a Base and two Castles, as well as "regeneration zones" where players who fall in battle may be revived, and although Bible Wars require a high level of teamwork to be successful, meaning that clans must set aside their own internecine battles if they wish to succeed, the potential rewards are great.
DarkEden is free-to-play, but a wide range of special items are available for real-money purchase. Some items are common to all three factions, but many are only available to one; Vampires can purchase special shapeshifting potions, for instance, while Slayers have a number of high-end firearms at their disposal.
