Darkfall Dev Journal #23: Tasos Answers 29 Fan Questions

Our Darkfall developer journal continues with its recent twist. Today, Associate Producer Tasos Flambouras answers 29 questions he gathered from the fan community.

Fan Question: What will the construction system be like? Also, will players be able to create a city in mountains or in underground locations?

Tasos Flambouras: I'm not going to directly answer this question because we intend to show you at some point how the construction system works. Describing it here is not descriptive enough. We've said before that "building anywhere" is relative. In Darkfall you can't build in any location you want, but this provides with unique clan cities built in awesome locations. So your clan city can be built on top of a glacier, have a waterfall hiding its entrance, be built on several levels on the side and in caverns inside a mountain, have secret underwater entrances, on a remote island...that kind of thing. These clan city features are not just about aesthetics, like where you ask about customizations, there is functionality in their layout. Darkfall's clan cities are extremely impressive and no two will be the same. Furthermore their location is strategic as far as geography and proximity to limited resources, making them points of conflict.

Great update, tho it makes me wonder where heal spells come from if they aren't 'divine' (which was removed because it was... redundant... with other schools of magic?) huh?

I also wonder, if as was said before, 6 houses in a clan city was alot, and now we find out that clan locations are part of the terrain, this means player housing will be limited to clan members? So, you have to be in a clan, *or rent one FROM a clan*, if you want player housing...
Seems a little odd to me on that one...

Informative update and definitely the best one yet. :)

I'm curious as to how they're going to handle movement altering spells. Crowd control effects are going to have a huge effect on this game due to the real-time fighting being an element.

It's completely unbelievable that people actually still follow this project.

If this is supposed to be the last update for a considerable period of time for a game that is set for beta and release this year its pathetic, amateurish and totally inadequate.
Just a Q and A but no demonstration of any of the features or game play just the same old talking but not showing anything new.

And to add insult to injury they even have the audacity to allow re-use of screen shots from Dev Journal 16 and 20 in this update, they must be really desperate if they can't even provide unique screenshots anymore.

This is the last scheduled update we are getting and they can't even show new screen shots but are repeating ones from previous updates , Does this look like a game that is starting beta soon? Or that this game is coming out this year?

If this game is ready for beta "very soon" and is going to launch this year, this is one of the worst attempts at PR I have ever seen from any MMO company. (excluding the ones that fail miserably)

From the amount of replies he has in dev journals, and from the fact he knows exactly what dev journals the pictures come from, we can all deduce he is the biggest fanboi of darkfall out there, but the long wait has damaged his already smallish brain

Ok, this is nothing short of hilarious. When I read this, I LITERALLY fell out of my chair laughing at this attack due to two things:

1) The fact that you're so desperate to find something that you can attack the game with that you're dwelling on which screenshots they decided to use in the journal.

2) The fact that you're so desperate to attack the game that you actually WENT BACK AND LOOKED AT PAST JOURNALS to check to see whether or not the screens were the same.

Well, this is blatantly wrong. As you can see from a majority of the people on this forum, they enjoyed this dev journal and can see that there are major changes going on. The only people that are see'ing darkfall in a negative light are annoying trolls that yell vaporware over and over and still fail to understand how development of an MMO actually occurs. What's even more hilarious is that most trolls that attack the game will likely end up subscribing to it.

The ONLY thing they can "announce" about Darkfall at this point in time that would be worth anything is a public playable Beta. And that isn't going to be happening... so have fun playing ForumFall. It looks like you really enjoy it.

If you dont believe that this game is coming out then why are you still reading the journals, and why do you quote other people don't you have your own opinion? If you don't care about this game then why does it seem that you even care more than the others?

No, they're A publisher. Not darkfall's publisher as of yet. The most they've said is that if they are unable to get a hold of a decent publisher, they'll self-publish. Completely different. Lrn2read.

this darkfall game hasn`t accomplished anything in like 7 years. just empty promises and missed deadlines. after many many years of just talking the developers have no credibility left. the only way they can improve that is to start SHOWING the game instead of only TALKING about it.
