Pirates of the Burning Sea: Server Merges

Flying Lab Software has announced a plan to merge some of the live servers for Pirates of the Burning Sea together to increase player population density in their sea-faring MMOG.

On Tuesday, April 15th there will be a brief, rolling outage in order to enable server transfers for your characters. The rolling outages will begin at 1:30a and continue from server to server until 3:30a, Pacific time.

Flying Lab Software launched Pirates of the Burning Sea on January 22nd, and now that we've had time to take stock, and review feedback from our players and the evaluation of our server populations; it has become clear that key game features require populations of higher density in order to function at optimum levels. When you take into account both the disparity in player time zones and the delayed launch of our title in some countries, we were spreading our overall population too thin. Also, in more recent builds, we were able to improve our server technology to allow for an even larger population than we were originally equipped to handle.

Providing our customers with the best game play experience is our first priority. Condensing our populations will lead to a richer, more vibrant game play experience for all involved, and our customers whole-heartedly agree.

For further discussion, we encourage you to visit our site at www.burningsea.com.

so another way of saying we have so few players that we dont need multiple servers if they want to come across another player at some point ?

Basically.

You also need a certain amount of active players working the economy for it to function well enough.

I believe their plan here, at least the way they're explaining it, is that they are actually making the numbers of players on each player bigger, thus they are combining servers to make sure that each gets up to the cap.

Thus, if previously each server held 2 people, now they hold 4. Thus, they combine server A and B to get it up to that number.

So, theoretically, this could be the exception to the server merges = game dying rule.

Yes ok, but somehow that sounds a little like a poor excuse to me lepi

Its early for the pirates to die out already, but then between all the mmo's out now and coming out soon it might just fall in between.

Ahh well, i've not tried it so im not sure what their player numbers are

Well, that's why I posted that as a board post and not in the news. Without actual numbers, there is no way to know, but that's the impression I got from talking to them, so I figured I'd pass it along.
