The network in my office is working for all but 2 computers. The packets are sending but not recieving. I know this is screwy. Basically, all but the 2 can connect to the net. anyone got any ideas on why this is happening?

What Hardware are you using and when did it start not working?

using adelphia cable in the office, terayon is the company that makes the modem, and it stopped working yesterday according to the boss. Using simple pentium 3 machines and windows xp running off them. All the others are the same specs, so thats why im confused as the fact of not working. Tried using new network cables considering last time my cable had a small almost unnoticable dent in it and stopped working, I switched and it works fine. I tried that here, no good news.

Can the machines all see each other? Have you tried pinging 127.0.0.1 to see if it is an issue with the NIC?

If they can see each other on the network then suspect is your Modem/router and/or the ISP itself. In that case try resetting your modem/router and see if that helps.

Maybe your boss accidentally turned on XP's integrated firewall and it is causing conflict? Malware problems restricting access?

I typed up a big post, but I will cut it down and be concise. Go into the router and check that the two computers are announcing the mac address properly in the arp cache. Do this first to verify proper link, and layer 1. If they are not, then swap nic's, cables, router ports. If they are, check each computer to make sure it is getting an IP address from the router, and that it is using the proper default gateway. Let me know what you find.
