I spent a while drunkenly talking to a friend of mine who just got a degree in classical civilisations, my word. Seems the Greeks thought women were just there for making babies, if you wanted some sexy fun, it had to be a man. He also mentioned some city who's army was made up of gay couples. They worked under the theory that if a man just saw his gay lover get killed, he'd go into berserker mode. It worked, those guys beat the spartan army on one occasion.
