This game is outdated plain and simple. It has nothing going for it anymore apart from it trying to include everything in 1 single game. They have not even proven that they even have that yet so no one believes them. And even if they did not have everything (which would be ok) they still have not proven that even "1" of their features works as intended.
There are games coming out next year that have all of their features that are core to Darkfall in them and they have proven their concepts actually work. What has Aventurine done? nothing but talk, whilst their "proof" is nothing more then very outdated videos and screen shots.
Their graphics will be a huge factor in how well they do like it or not. Especially if Warhammer and Age of Conan do well , which of course they will. Does anyone honestly think people are going to give a damn that Darkfall dumbed down its graphics engine so that it could have better combat???? When those other 2 games have 100 x better graphics and are proven to work with the same sort of combat system?
All they really need to do to is show they have a combat system that works with servers that can support the constant massive battles that will (supposadely) happen in this game. And they have NEVER done that. With all the failed mmo's and now this game stinking of another dark and light you would think these guys have enough common sense to prove they are not talking shit but again for some reason - they never do.

First of all graphics are not as important for majority of players. For example Vanguard has much better graphic than Wow. Hell L2 got better graphic than WoW but WoW beat hell out of this games because overall quality. BTW there are people who still play UO and original EQ so... Second. None of incoming games have same features as DFO. "Free will" with full loot is not same as item driven game with optional pvp. Player build towns are not same as RvR keep. Emotional involvement is such game is on all other level than RvR "no lose, win guaranty" games. Dont even try to compare features of AoC and War to DFO.
As for viperware. I can't say it is not but PvP players have no other game on horizon so we follow DFO and hope for the best.

The fact that they have been working on this game for 7 years means that its better than any MMO ever seen. And you have to remember its COMPLETELY hand crafted artwork not some computer generated stuff (which I dont completely support). Have you all heard of Snipe Hunt online. It is a new game going into beta in the next couple of weeks, it is something to play while waiting for DF. It features 30 playable races, A no class skill system, a wounding system, open PK with looting, personal and guild housing. Multiple combat interfaces. A massive seamless world... and much much more.
The game has been in development for unknown number of years as the original concept was devised by the Tukhaumet Tribe of what is now modern Indonisia. They began devolping concept art on the walls of their cave dwellings and many generations later that development process is still being worked on. Prebeta started in the 19th Century when scientist constructed a crude mock up using existing teletext lines, by tapping out code they could work out issues with the combat and trade system. Personally, I'm not sure what drives people to get so angry over a game...this day and age people must lead insanely lame lives--there's no other explanation for it other than sheer purposelessness. Honestly people.
Well, I figured while I was at it I should include my opinion on these matters.
Firstly, it's funny how some people truly reflect the mentality of today's culture--faithlessness and a lack of trust characterizes the increasing majority. "This game's been in development forever with little proof that it will ever be completed..." That is the most common accusation. As for me, I don't need the visual proof. I'm a concepts guy, and I tend to take people for their word. Judging by what I've read, the content suggests the dev team is extremely mature; they don't cave in to political pressures, they are confident in their product, but not arrogant, they have been extremely faithful to their concepts (from what it sounds like) from day one--I applaud their approach and honesty with the utmost sincerity.
Perhaps the game never does come out, that could happen. Oh well...life will go on...someone will make it someday. But what if it does? Have the naysayers been raving to everyone they know? Because if they have, how foolish would they look the day this game was released? No need to get so worked up, unless of course you get paid to do it--there's gotta be something illegal about that...
Lastly, if you think about it, this game SHOULD be taking as long as it has been if it's going to be done properly. I wouldn't expect anything less as far as the development length. "Well then why no real proof?" Well, I guess that definition is subject to the individual. I've seen 'good proof' myself. The few videos I've seen have been beautiful as far as I'm concerned. Graphics may not be jaw-dropping, but little does it matter if you have a game of such variety and freedom and gameplay quality--look at civilization. As a writer and highly analytical person, i see the dev journals as nothing short of genius. Yes, talk may be cheap, but developing a game is not. And if someone's willing to fund this game, then you better believe they're working their butts off to get this game where they feel it needs to be.
It's sad to me how people will ALWAYS, inevitably determine to tear down the success and dreams that others have simply due to the fact that they themselves do not have the strength of character to do something for themselves. actually they are in private beta testing and will realease a beta this summer i assume. they are answering questions and althought there are not many videos, the Q+As are enough for me
