RoleCraft: Roleplayers Set S.A.I.L.!

Jim Moreno gets back into the groove in 2008 with his latest column: Roleplayers Set S.A.I.L.! This is an acronym for "speech, actions, interactions and look", which are to him four main traits roleplayers focus on. Every other Monday, Moreno brings us a new column where he focuses in on issues that are important to roleplayers.

Taking a good look at my fellow roleplayers in the four MMORPGs I play, and across many other RPGs I've played, I see a vast number of ways we display our RP talents, way too many to count. Yet, I think these methods may all be categorized under four main traits that we focus on - speech, actions, interactions, and look - and are very easily remembered with the acronym SAIL.

Read more after the leap.

I hope this is a separate comment section for Darkfall, because my comment is only for the Darkfall section.

Why, oh why, is this in the Darkfall section, Mr Lepidus?

I have done RP PvP many times, enjoyed it many more. I am a Dungeon Master for 3.5 D&D and often Roleplay ALL the NPCs. However, the Darkfall community I have observed, who actively participate here, are not an RP community. I have seen nothing rating it's RP potential, and when I mentioned RP PvP as a guild in Darkfall, I was mocked lol.

Just curious is all, to those that RP, it isn't very informative, and to those that don't, you open yourself to mockery (which I will politely refrain from doing here lol).

More and more, I post our general opinion pieces across all the sites. You guys (Darkfall) tend to be among the more vocal, so I generally throw them your way. As always, this is not Darkfall specific, but given the hardcore reputation of the game's fans, I thought it would be interesting to see how you all react. ;)

Well, that's rather sad that there is little to no RP in Darkfall, if what you say is actual fact. I have not played the game, and don't know very much about it. I am, however, always open to hearing about RP (or the lack seeming lack thereof) in all other MMORPGs. I have been told on many occasions there is no RP in other games, like Anarchy Online, yet I know roleplayers there. Is there not a single soul who roleplays in all of Darkfall's audience?

I didn't say there aren't any in Darkfall who RP, it just isn't the active majority of the posters. As I stated in my post, I am an RP PvP man. Also in previous posts I have mentioned that I was in UND and VwV on Siege Perilous. I am also an Orc on th Angel Island Freeshard.

So I would count myself among the RPers of Darkfall, however, while I will not actively be RP in Darkfall with my clan, if another character, in a non combat situation, were to initiate roleplay, I would assume a fictitious role to accomodate his playstyle.

It's a respect thing, I'm weird. I get it lol
