Newsletter Discussion: Honoring a Legend

Earlier this week, the creator of the original pen & paper RPG, Gary Gygax, passed away. His imagination paved the way for the MUDs and MMORPGs that have ushered millions into worlds of fantasy and heroism. This week, we here at WarCry pay our respects.

How will you remember Gary Gygax?

My friends and I have already scheduled a OD&D night here in a few weeks, buds are going to bust out their respective white and brown boxes and we will have a go. Should be entertaining as the earliest D&D system I have played in was AD&D.

Thanks to a game he and his friends dreamed up it spawned a generation of high fantasy adventure that has lead to many a great author coming to be, if I or anyone else can someday say the same it, in my case, will be because of this man. I, for one, had never even read The Hobbit until I rolled my first dice.

Gary Gygax will live in every book, board, session, gathering and game influenced by the D & D universe. This is an honor beyond any.

The creation he and Dave Arneson provided us (D&D) is certainly one that steered my life for the better.
