Hey guys! I was looking around at a few MMO's and this one caught my eye. I was wondering if I could ask you guys a few questions. I havent played an MMO since my Asherons Call 2 days and I kinda miss it. Now I liked AC2 but it really had A TON of issues. Since LOTR is another Turbine game I just want to make sure I'm not walking into another situation like that. I must say that it wasnt encouraging surfing their site. I wanted to find system requirements (my computer isnt the best) and had zero luck. They also wouldnt let me register a forum account (the register button had been disabled). So here I am. Anyway here are my system stats:

AMD Athlon(TM) 64 X2 2.2GHZ
512MB system cache
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6100 graphics card 128mb shared

Would this game work on my computer?

I also wonder about the player population. AC2 was very sparce indeed. Whats it like in LOTR? I love PVP. Does LOTR have this?

I can't tel you about the specs of your vid card, as I don't know nvidia at all...this page has the spec requirements, tho: http://www.lotro.com/index.php?page_id=145. You can't have an account until you have a subscription. Turbine changed to that model a few years ago.

There are lots of people on Lotro, and more join all the time. If you want a heavily populated server, head to Brandywine.

PvP doesn't exist as such in Lotro. However, there is PvMP, where you can play as a monster (starting at level 50) in a special zone. You can take your non-monster character to that zone starting at level 40, and fight the player controlled and computer controlled monsters there. You cannot fight Elf vs Human, tho. Only vs orcs or wargs or whatever.

Beyond PvMP? No. All indications point to PvMP being the only PvP in LOTRO.

Well at least there may be less WoW like annoying ganking.

Your setup seems pretty compatible to play lotro, my only suggestion would be to upgrade the graphics card. I play on Gladden which I guess would be considered a mid-lvl population.

The PvP is relegated to a special region called the Ettenmoors (the moors for short). Right now it's the only PvMP area but the devs have alluded to possible future expansion of this type of area, perhaps in next year's Rohan expansion. It can be quite fun in there stalking each other and looking for the upper hand. Can't have free-for-all all around pvp since that would completely skew the storyline. It's a good reprieve from PvE though. You can either create a monster toon, which begins it's life at level 50, or you can head with your regular toon into the moors at lvl 40, although you'll probably get munched on alot, damn wargs...lol.

IMHO it's the best MMO ever especially now with the Moria expansion. ;)

Okay, I have a newbie question... is LotRO any good?! I mean, my housemate raves about WoW all the time... but never really saw the appeal. I do, however, like LotR. Is that enough?!

If you like LotR you will find lots of well known places and characters. And if you read the quest descriptions (highly recommended) you will see that the setting feels like the real middle earth. So yes, LotRO is good. If you don't like to focus on PvP and Raiding. LotRO might be the best MMO currently available.

Cool, I might have to give it a go when I get some spare time. TBH, raiding and PvP were the elements of WoW that were somewhat lot on me.

Lotro has in my opinion the best single plyer storyline of any current MMO, the game is worth playing just for that. Anything else is a bonus
