Stargate Worlds Still On Track

Last week, a couple of news stories (here and here) hit the airwaves indicating trouble for Stargate Worlds developer Cheyenne Mountain and casting doubt about the game's development. In a press notice just released by Cheyenne Mountain's Senior Marketing Manager Kevin Balentine, these stories appear to be much ado about nothing. Find out what IS going on at Cheyenne Mountain and with Stargate Worlds below:

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The Lights are Still On and Stargate Worlds Development Continues

I've been asked from many corners lately to provide an official response to a story circulated by Gateworld.net. I spoke with Darren Sumner, the author of the story, soon after it was posted and gave him a detailed response to the article which he decided not to publish.

Our official response is that the lights here are still on and the development team is working hard every day to get this game built. Team members are in the office seven days a week to deliver Stargate Worlds. Brad Wright is the Stargate expert and a creative consultant on Stargate Worlds who advises us on the story; unfortunately we had not recently updated him on our progress or the impact from the current global economic crisis, and he was not fully aware of the continuing progress on our game.

It's true that the production of Stargate Worlds has been significantly impacted by the greatest worldwide economic downturn in decades, but we are still raising enough money from angel investors to keep the dev team working.

We are currently negotiating several deals that will cover our financial responsibilities and fund the remainder of development. When we sign those deals, you'll hear about it. Until then, we'll keep building Stargate Worlds, because right now, that's the only thing that matters to us.

That should lay the speculation to rest.

This press release just confirms that CME is still having major financing problems.

Even if they manage to get the necessary funding, I fear Stargate Worlds will be rushed to release prematurely.

Let's hope for the best =/

Yeah...probably should've said "much ado about something but it ain't dead yet" or some such. :)

I simply take this as a good sign that development continues and that SGW isn't on death's door yet.

I'm pretty sure many of the developer's are biting the bullet and still are working for no or cut paychecks. I would probably hold on to the project as well in that situation.

I just hope they score that funding in time before reality strikes hard in their employees pockets.

I agree. Let's hope they don't get "Flag-shipped". :(

With troubles facing on only Cheyenne, I'm also wondering if MGM will push for them to speed things up to so they can get a little something extra to ease their own troubles a little...
though I am glad to see that they have not pulled the plug.
