Champions Online: Open Beta, New Powers & PAX

Champions Online devs worked themselves into a frenzy yesterday with three big news items: A PAX sweepstakes; open beta news; and a new powers preview. Grab the links below:

• Electricity Power Set Preview: Chain Lightning allows you to emit a powerful, directed blast of electrical energy at a target, which might arc to other nearby targets as well.
• Win a trip to the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX): We are very excited to announce our PAX sweepstakes! The Penny Arcade Expo is one of the biggest gaming events in the world, and we want to send you there. We'll pick one random community member to receive a trip to PAX, including airfare, hotel, and a dinner with the Cryptic crew at PAX. All you have to do is register an account on our site, and you're eligible to win. Already registered? Great! Sit back, relax, and cross your fingers. • Open Beta Details: Cryptic and Atari are happy to announce the details for the upcoming Open Beta for Champions Online! As previously announced, open beta will begin on August 17th. Starting on August 5th, the open beta client will be available for download on a first-come, first-serve basis on FilePlanet. The site will be giving away 50,000 keys to North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. To sign up, visit their Champions page or preorder through any of our retailers or Direct2Drive.
