I think people are particularly leery of small, unproven studios promising things that even the big studios can't seem to pull off.
More and more now I see that devs either refuse to discuss new or unrevealed features or copiously insert qualifiers around their mention. Given the often emotionally unhinged state of some gamers, I think that's a wise move.

Unless, of course, you really want people to go into your game and tinker with the design and ideas. Personally, I've not seen that work very well--shades of too many cooks.

So, anyway, I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than predictably disappointed by a game.
