Turbine Announces Pumpkin Carving Contest
Good with a Jack Chop? Get rewarded by Turbine!
Now that it's October, we find ourselves screaming down a crash course at light speed toward that revered/dreaded time of year, holiday season. Sure, we have a little bit of time before we're tormented at every step by decorations of turkeys and pilgrims, carrot-nosed plastic snowmen, and fat men in red suits, waving bells and asking for our money, but we know it's coming. One of the telltale signs? Halloween-themed everything.
Even with all that it hearkens, however, Halloween can be a blast, and what better way for gamers to get into the Halloween spirit than by carving MMO-themed jack-o-lanterns? I can't think of one, and it appears that neither can Westwood, MA-based Turbine, Inc.
The company behind Asheron's Call, Dungeons & Dragons Online, and The Lord of the Rings Online have issued a call to all would-be pumpkin artists, and are looking for submissions from their players for game-themed pumpkin carvings. Not only that, but they want to reward you for them.
Here's the deal: they are looking for the best Asheron's Call, Dungeons & Dragons Online, and The Lord of the Rings Online themed carved pumpkins. "Themed" is, of course, a vague term, so they're expecting players to get as creative as possible. Carve your character, carve a monster or villain, carve your favorite in-game locale; the only limits are your imagination and that it must be game-related.
Turbine will accept digital photographs of entries from October 4th through October 30th, 2010. Entries must be original creations, should be at least 1024x768 in resolution, and no larger than 6MB in file size. Photograph your pumpkin and enter it in one of the following categories:
AC Pumpkins
DDO Pumpkins
LOTRO Pumpkins
What do you get in return for your immaculate Cucurbitaceae-carving talents? In-game rewards, of course! You can win free game time, a pet pumpkin golem, in-game titles, custom forum titles, or Turbine Points for the LOTRO store. Sounds like some pretty cool rewards for welcoming the spookiest time of the year in true gamer fashion.
