The Matrix Online: Exclusive Developer Journal

Today we're lucky to have Matrix Online developer "Rarebit" take the time to pen a developer journal exclusively for MXO WarCry. In this article, he looks at the state of MxO's story.

Early in the development of The Matrix Online (MxO), the powers behind the game decided that it would do something significantly different than most other commercial massively multiplayer online games: It would tell a single, continuing story--the story of the Matrix. It would pick up right after the end of the third Matrix film and continue to evolve the exciting world and characters that had proven so popular in the Matrix movie trilogy.

The series' creators, the Wachowski Brothers, developed a general theme for the first year's plot (Peace and the things people do to wreck it), ideas for a new character or two, and some thoughts on how to kick things off. They hand-picked Paul Chadwick, well known for his comic book series "Concrete" and one of their favorite writers, and put the franchise firmly in his hands. Armed with this creative blessing and plenty of encouragement to take the Matrix to places it had never been before, Paul began writing the first year or so of the story.

I agree that MxO has gotten a lot better since it was first launched. I'm really looking forward to see where the story goes after the "first year's" content is completed.

I don't know if you are still in contact with Rarebit but if you are I have a question for him (or her?).

While it was obvious that the whole Slumberil excursion was an official taste of an alternative reality game for MxO the same official standing isn't so obvious for either Matrixism or MetaCortex. If you are still in contact with Rarebit please find out wether or not Metcortechs/MetaCortex and Matrixism: the path of the One are official extensions of The Matrix Online.

MxO has goten much better in the pasy 8 months or so, So many poeple blame SOE for MxO's suggested failure, but it hasnt failed at all if you ask me. Live events are better than ever and Rarebit really knows how to please the players the way he delivers them us.

Despite what many players say the game as almost no bugs (compared to the way it was) there is the occasional exploit and bug here and there, but considering we have 3 devs that work on the team (Walrus doesnt count IMO) you coulnt ask for a better job.

MxO is high caliber action if there ever was an MMO with action. You wont find better graphics or combat in any MMO out there.
