CNet has a story up that looks at the paradox of Second Life: Linden's belief that it will be bigger than the internet and their desire that the mainstream media not overhype their product. It's an interesting question for a game that gets more mainstream media attention than a game 116 times its size (World of Warcraft).
In Second Life, avatars can fly with the push of a button. Maybe that's why it seems like the virtual world's enthusiasts sometimes have trouble staying grounded.
At this weekend's Second Life Community Convention, Philip Rosedale--founder of Second Life creator Linden Lab--ambitiously declared, as he often does, that "this is something that everybody on Earth is going to use" and that the virtual world will be "bigger than the Web."
