Bollocks. | |
Yeah, bollocks. Physical media and PC/consoles still have a long life ahead of them.
I don't think he means that PC games are dead, but "PC games as we know it" (which I can only assume can be misinterpreted). It would have been nice if Taylor elaborated further, but I'd assume that, given the context of the conversation, he means that PC gaming is making a shift towards flash? Or at least online only. Uh, yeah, what he said, bollocks, for now anyways. I don't think the internet infrastructure is ready for it, in North America anyways. Look at what happened to Live during the holiday season, their servers were fucked. When we're at a stage where fiber is to the curb, then maybe we'll see, but games that are potentially 10gb+ is a bit much over typical broadband.
The only PC games I'am waiting for are StarCraft 2 , Warhammer and Age of Conan. So ya PC gaming is pretty crappy right now.
The OS is the biggest problem. Vista is what made me go back to consoles.
There's a reason why John Carmack used OpenGL for his latest engine, he knew the adoption rate for Vista was going to be abysmal at best. Quite frankly, gaming needs to go to Linux, it's pretty clear that Microsoft really doesn't give a crap about PC gaming. If they could, they'd sever the whole PC market in favor of the consoles.
