Age of Conan: WarCry's Official Preview

Funcom lifted their embargo late last week with the FilePlanet Open Beta going live, and so the WarCry Network has been given free-reign to spill the beans on all things 'Age of Conan'.

"For Funcom, creating Age of Conan has been a labour of love, and that is devastatingly obvious in the fruits they have beared in this Crom-tastic game."

This week, we're very proud to bring to our official preview of Age of Conan.

Sooo what about the quests, the cities, the world, the levelling and the other forms of pvp ?

Dont get me wrong you're explanation of the 1v1 pvp was clear (apart from how this is such a new refreshing realtime combat thing) , but it feels like you skipped 80 % of the game somehow.

It's difficult to sum-up the entire game in a few paragraphs, so do not misinterpret these musings as "something to hide". Also, pay attention to the first paragraph of the preview: your opportunity to ask more questions about the game will come.

Yes i got the part about asking questions, its just that as an offical preview i was expecting the other parts of the game to be described too, altough maybe in less detail because i can see how a few paragraphs would turn into many many more

but who knows

maybe during review ;)

Cheers for the pvp bit tho! and i'd like to read something about the mini games if you have time sometime

It's a few months old, but I had a hands-on with the game at the Funcom offices back in January in Oslo. I don't think much has changed about the mini-games since then.

Capture the Flag (CTF), and Team Annihilation are the PvP mini-games in Age of Conan.

No mention of the crashes and performance issues in your preview ? Ive been playing the game all day and have been plagued by constant crashing ,lock ups as well as masses hitch , on the lowest setting using a AMD dual core cpu, 2gigs of ram and a 8800GT.

I just wish for once I could read a preview and get the whole picture. This was an awful article that will sucker many into buying the game before testing it out on there pc's first.

Didnt sign up to this news letter for fluffy articles and lolipop roller coaster, the next fluff article will be my email boxes last.

That's unfortunate for you. I have never experienced any crashes or lock-ups in my usage of the Age of Conan beta client. That is the honest truth.

Please, don't insult me by suggesting this is a "fluff piece" to sell copies of the game, because naturally, everyone's experience of the game is different to others; system specs differ too. And please bear in mind that you are currently playing on a beta build which is considerably older than what Funcom developers would be testing now for the pre-release; you are not playing the retail client at present.

Players may receive an opportunity to test the game before purchase if they can attain a buddy-key from a friend/guildmate. Otherwise, there's is the current Open Beta (I believe keys are being given away without the need for a FilePlanet subscription, at present).

its known at funcom about the AMD duo core problems. you should check the public forum.
as far as im concerned. you should disable duo core support (which means running the game on one core) until they fixed the problem

also, the open beta. i recon you play that one, is mainly made for stress testing. and fixing a problem there takes quite a while.
just don't assume it's the ''pre-release'' version

Wont they offer a few days trial anyway? like most other mmorpgs?

I figure thats the best way to go anyway if your system isnt part of the latest rigs out there.

And i do agree weezer is an obvious major conan fan, which is clear in every piece he writes, but you can chose to filter that out and just read the aspects of the game he is describing

Dude people with duo intels are experiencing the same issues, Funcom has even come out and said they are trying to fix major issues with the game, yet you fail to bring that into your article...

I crashed over 38 times yesterday as well has having 10 hard boots, and there are many many other like me that have Intels and AMD cpus. so stop trying to make it a AMD scape goat it is really pissing me off.

I don't use a multi-core CPU, did you ever consider that? The client is very stable on my AMD 3400+. It's a real shame that you are experiencing technical difficulties; my condolences.

So you are saying Weezer should have included aspects about the game he did not encounter, and quite possibly was unaware of? Last one on the logic train is a rotten egg!

Actually pengu
most pre/re-views in paper games mags do do that because they research the community around the game too, so its not that weird that people expect a little more, nor is it Weezers fault his machine doesnt fail however ;)
