LittleBigPlanet Recalled & Delayed

image

GamingIndustry.biz reported today that Sony will recall and delay the release of their much anticipated title "LittleBigPlanet" due to discovered references to the Holy Qur'an on the in-game soundtrack.

A Sony representative told EuroGamer the following:

During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an.

The original post citing the references can be found cached here, noting that the background soundtrack for the "Swinging Safari" level, which is licensed from Toumani Diabate's Tapha Niang album, might be offending and inappropriate for the title.

Sony will recall and replace every existing copy of LittleBigPlanet on the market now, and will announce a new release date soon, with speculations aiming at November 14th instead of the previous date of October 24th.

Oh my, now wouldn't that have been a scandal.

That's definitely some distracting media attention for Sony, and I'm glad they caught it before release. Spore's DRM fiasco comes to mind.
