| HanbitSoft To Relaunch Hellgate and Mythos!
Gamasutra announced today that HanbitSoft, the owners of Hellgate: London and Mythos IPs, are already working on Hellgate: London expansion in a newly formed U.S. studio and planning for a relaunch soon:
According to a HanbitSoft blog maintained by global PR manager Julie Ha, the Korean company acquired the IPs for both games, including their engines and source codes. HanbitSoft previously only managed Hellgate's operation in Korea.
Additionally, T3 Entertainment, which is also based in Korea and has a controlling stake in HanbitSoft, formed a new U.S. studio comprised of former Flagship and Blizzard employees to work on updating the two games. The studio is believed to be called Redbana U.S. Corporation and is based in San Francisco. "They will be carrying on where the last crew left off," says HanbitSoft's site.
A posted letter from a Hellgate product manager at Hanbitsoft says that the new studio is working on an expansion that will "surpass The Abyss Chronicles," a Hellgate content patch released earlier this year. It also notes that the update will be available online.

Gamasutra also confirmed that HanbitSoft will be developing Mythos MMOPRG as well, and will be relaunched when ready!

| It looks like it will be a single player expansion and I don't see anything about Mythos coming back. It'd be great if it did though. |
| From the same article:
He continues, "I believe Mythos is a very attractive MMORPG, just gaining large fans from couple of beta tests. It has a lot of potential, and it will also be developed at [our] studio in San Francisco with Hellgate: London. Both titles will be presented soon with upgraded features."
And a previous article:
According to new job posting-related information, Asian publisher T3 Entertainment is setting up a San Francisco development studio to carry on work on Hellgate: London and Mythos, following developer Flagship's recent layoffs.
The postings, which have appeared on multiple sites including DICE.com and Gamasutra, reveal: "T3 Entertainment is searching for creative minds to passionately continue development of Hellgate: London and Mythos, along with other new games, which are being published by HanbitSoft Inc."
The info is a bit hazy, but I would assume "relaunching" Mythos and Hellgate will involve them being online, especially Mythos.
Here's for hoping! =D |
| Ah, good tidings at last! Thanks for bringing this to us =) |
| I don't see mythos doing particularly well with Diablo 3 on the horizon, unless Blizzard really mess Diablo 3 up. I have been playing it on and off since early alpha. It was fun for a couple hours at a time but it lacked that addictive quality.
Would be nice if they could get sort Hellgate out though. The game has huge amounts of potential it just needs to be polished a fair bit and put some game modes in that were missing or sort out ones that were just broken. |
| For the type of player that would enjoy Mythos, D3 isn't looking too good right now. |
| I totally disagree, guitar. D3 looks like "Baldur's Gate" storywise compared to Mythos and still has the addictive quality of the first two. After playing it at Blizzcon, I've utterly discounted the naysayers who crabbed about the 'cartoonish' look of the game. Now Mythos, on the other hand, is the epitome of cartoonish.
Don't get me wrong, I love(d) Mythos. But D3 and Mythos are utterly different games. They can appeal to the same gamer for different reasons.
On another note, I hope the expansion for Hellgate includes a way to import your online character into your single player game and a TCP/IP connection so that people can still play together. I don't have any interest in playing single player Hellgate. |
| I really liked the new way Mythos was heading, they were working on a new expansion Flagship which would have made it much more close to an MMO. Really sad to see that gone, hopefully the product will still be good. No comment on Hellgate. |
| Goody good - looking forward to mythos |
