This is idiotic. I understand if it was some "adult" in a cyber cafe, or maybe a neglected child that was secretly stealing away play time, but this? The father was AWARE of this and did nothing? And people have the BALLS to blame the video game for this?
My thoughts exactly, Guitar. NOW he's going to curtail his kid's gaming. Talk about too little too late. >:(
Was bound to happen, sooner or later. The real culprit? Parental standards.
Alright, negative nellies. The only thing the dad did wrong was not give the kid stamina training. I remember 24-48-64 hour marathons of Final Fantasy, Street FighterII and other original nintendo games and you would make it on one value meal from tacobell and a 24 pack of Mountain Dew (yes I am that old). I think this kid is just a wuss, the dad, simply did not know his kid was a candyass.
What does not kill you, makes you stronger. On to the next WOW marathon!
I kind of agree with bloodyleach on this one. Kids and even adults all over the world do lan gaming for excessive amounts of hours. Just need to eat and drink while gaming to keep the energy levels up and its not normally a problem.
Since when is Sweden in Britain?
I see no islanders here :P
Might be a britt
A britt living in Sweden, could it be? More on topic, i really wouldnt let my kid spend 24h/day on a game regardless of whether its physically dangerous or not
Ah shaddap. I'll fix it.
You can always count on Suzie!
I blame Obama and the Swedish Chef...there I said it!
Nothing was said about the kids medical history. He may have chronic epileptic attacks and lack of sleep alone could cause it. Hell the lights on our engine can cause it. My professional opinion: Nothing to see here folks just some wierd ass kid that has fits and just happened to have one playing a popular game. I gotta go with Bloodyleach on this one.
Wuss. | |
Worst part is, WOW actualy rewards you for logging off, via the rested xp bonus. Ether way, this is still hardly news, i mean he dident even kill himself.
Next week: Teen suicides after a "hunter" had apparently "ninjaed" his "loot". Learn all about this crazy game called WoW and how it sucks our children into a virtual world of hardship from which many never recover, more info page 41.
Now THATS news! Hopefully it will become a popular trend!
Let's hope the media don't get hold of the fact there's a quest in Grizzly Hills called "Mister floppy's perilous adventure" involving a female child.... Oh my.
What a light weight. 24 hours is nothing. The parents could have at least made sure he ate!
Reminds me of the Korean man that overdosed on coffee over the course of three days.
Well least this guy didn't ignore his children to death while playing it.
So soon we forget about the japanese kids who played for a week straight didn't leave the computer to eat or use the restroom. they pee'd in bottles. and just played until they die. This is nothing new just getting closer to where you live so now more people care. EDIT: SODassualt got to it first. I didn't read all the replys Now I think about it there has to be a pre-existing condition for this kid to have a "epileptic seizure" I mean yes I'm no doctor but most likely for most cases it starts with flashing lights and moving objects that causes these specific seizure. also I love its FOX NEWS that broke the story. no offense but they tend to be the side that is anti gaming. right?
(Knowingly) Let the kid play nonstop for more than a day, then blame the game when something bad happens...
If a thread's like 5 months old, feel free to not necro it.
If you can't take a 24 hour gaming spree without collapsing you should not call yourself a gamer.
This Game has caused nothing but trouble for my Family. My Son plays the Game like nothing else matters. Tearing him away is not as easy as you may think (even setting his alarm sneaking out of bed @ 3am to play which results in him falling asleep in class). We have had to compromise of the past few years by giving him a little time to play (set time limits with internet filter Ez Internet Timer http://www.internettimer.net However this just became a daily fight to tear him away.... Parents should do their job and get their kids told, get off the game For goodness sake, parents need to take responsibility for their kids.
(Please pardon my necro assitance)
I agree. I've played Final Fantasy before for a good day and a half straight, same with OddWorld, and various other games (incluiding table top games).
I got an idea, how about you stop paying for your child's subscription. For instance, my mom was going to pay for Lord of the Rings: Online for me but one of my grades slipped from an A(out of a 100 it was like a 92) to a B(86) and she backed out.
Diane: Contrary to what you might think, WoW IS all that matters. If you want to see your son, check in with him on Tuesday mornings thats when they have down time, or as your son probably calls it, his crying time. Your other alternative is to simply beat the kid's ass. A good beating can go a long way. On a seperate issue.. holy crap people, I am a fan of this site and I won't scrounge up old topics, there are new topics all the time randomly BS a one liner on those and stop digging through our trash.
Diane is obviously an ad bot, and I think we all know why this got exhumed. Too bad a certain sticky in the Off-Topic doesn't seem to be getting read as much as it should be.
I was aware. I figured I'd atleast respond to it. They never expect that.
WoW: Teen Collapses After 24 Hour Lich King Spree
Time for the obligatory story about the abuses of some online gamers: A Swedish teen collapsed after playing World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King for 24 hours straight. See how, when, where and why below.
Sure, Dad, now you want to monitor Junior's online playing time.
Good thing he didn't read the thread last week about longest gaming sessions. Add your thoughts to the thread by CLICKING HERE.
