Akeen to X-FIRE?

And speaking of which, check out the any-game-in-game-browser called Rogue.

I had considerd trying PlayXpert a few months ago, but hesitated cuz i noticed a new version was in the works. However, that Rogue looks like basicly what i wanted. Is it legit Guitar? have you tried it?

In-game overlays are hardly a new thing. As mentioned, Xfire and Steam have done this for a long time. Mind you, the widget thing sounds pretty cool. It's not revolutionary though.

The widget thing -is- pretty interesting and different than a lot of other systems out there. At any rate, anything new coming down the pipe that pushes innovation is a good thing IMO. ;)

So can anyone say Decal?

Yes, I know Playxpert won't "break" on updates, but this is a rare event with Decal. Decal is open and wonderful. I wonder if they realize that such a thing, an entirely third party plugin platform with hundreds of plugins, has already existed before?

(Decal is limited to Asheron's Call however)

Don't get me wrong, this is a wonderful thing. It may actually allow me to venture outside AC.

Those gold farmers and their elaborate schemes to deprive you of your MMO accounts?

I'm going to need a larger monitor if I was to consider using something like that, my MMO's tend to be cluttered enough as it is without a web browser over the top of it all. That and windowed mode seems to work real well for most the games I play if I want to browse the web while doing it.

Hey guys, I'm Jesse the community lead over at PXP, I just wanted to jump into this thread to offer my support and personally invite you guys to try out the product while we're still in beta. As we come down the stretch to our 1.0 release, we want to try to figure out where we can add the most to the player's experience and the best way to do that is by getting feedback from devoted communities like this.

Decal is great, but yes, unfortunately you can only use it in Asherons call, we want to deliver a platform that goes across all games. But like Decal, with PXP you can 'sandbox' widgets like our own GoogleGadget widget, so if you do some flash or HTML you can make a widget that just navigates to it and it will show it in-game.

But it's that kind of dev community that we're looking for (like with Decal), so I want to offer my support to anyone out there that may be looking to give creating a widget a shot. Any questions or anything you have as well go ahead and ask, I'll be looking over this thread.

Thanks Warcy and Kalia!

Edit: And as for Rogue supporting any game, it only supports the games that are listed on the site. That's one of the main reasons we did our overlay on the kernel level of the computer, because we should work in any Dx8 and up game.

Been using PXP for a little while now (think it got featured on WoW insider about a month ago) and it's fantastic. There are a few niggles, but they'll be ironed out. My biggest gripe is the lack of a vista overlay, I know it's coming - bt it's the defining feature of the program. For it not to work on certain OSes is a little silly.

I know it'll be coming in the 1.0 release and i'm still using PXP right now for the pidgin style multi messenger account support, can't wait till I can finally use it in-game.

Hey Cheese, yah unfortunately the Vista Kernel is a dark and scary place and what we're doing is pretty uncharted. But yes, end of year....

Fantastic, I greatly look forward to it and I feel your pain with vista. Currently doing a large scale C++ project with it and it seems they've helpfully hidden EVERY directX API that made it easy to program in XP. I'm told it's all moved into the OS itself, but I gave up reading the MSDN and decided to go openGL / openAL instead.

Great to have you on board, JessePXP! To have developers show up and give feedback to our users is second to none. Thanks for taking the time! :)

I downloaded the installer with high hopes and got just past creating an account, then it crashed.
After some forum searching, no Vista support, no 64-bit support. Doesn't help those of us running Vista 64 :(

I'll take another look when there's a full release out. Something I'd like to see is the option of running in userspace like Steam/Xfire's overlay, incase your graphics driver/OS doesn't play nicely. Given your current architecture I suspect porting it would be a massive undertaking.

On another note, although the installer gave me a nice 5.0 for all tests and a 5.1 overall (what the?) it never detected my OS as being incompatible; it just crashed instead.

I am tempted to have a look at the widget SDK, see if I can manage anything with it. I'll think up something to make with it then fire off an application for the SDK, been a while since i've used C#, so it'll all be good fun.
