WoW: Teen Threatens Suicide to Blizzard Rep

An Ohio teenager is probably not going to be playing much World of Warcraft for awhile after threatening suicide while in communication with a Blizzard representative. See why he pulled such a stunt by reading the account from the local newspaper, The Middletown Journal:

A 17-year-old Fairfield Twp. teen pretended to be suicidal when he became frustrated with an online video game, Fairfield Twp. police reported.

According to officials, the teen was arrested Monday, Dec. 29, for inducing panic after patrol officers and medics responded to the boy's home in the 3000 block of Pimlico Court. The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor.

The teen was having an online conversation with a representative of Blizzard Entertainment, an online video game company, when he typed that "he was suicidal and that the game is the only thing he has to live for," according to the report.

The company representative called 911.

The juvenile told police it was a joke "to try to get what he wanted for the game," according to the report. He was then handcuffed and placed in a patrol car. The boy was released to his father.

The boy is scheduled to appear in Butler County Juvenile court on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

The report said he was "trying to get what he wanted for the game". So my question to you, dear readers, is this: What WoW item or event or whatever would be worth threatening suicide over?

The cool GM lightsabres .. yes they really exists I caught someone using one.

But seriously nothing is worth threatening suicide, offer sexual favors that will get you much further.

DM: From the deepest crypts crawls the undead thread, it's death rattle shakes you to your core. What foul necromantic forces brought forth this foul beast.
Cleric: I attempt to turn undead.
DM: You can't this is a WoW forum D&D magic does not work here.
Cleric: Well guys we are @#$%*%!
Wizard: Agreed, I believe this Necrothread was created by a dread ForumLych, impossible to stop, without a sense of humor.
Fighter: Very well I throw a badge or some other posting reward down at the necrothread and prepare a tactical retreat.
DM: The necrothread pauses at your offer, snaps up the reward and slinks off deeper into the internet.
Rogue: Phwew! That was close... I wonder if there are even more ancient Necrothreads ahead of us?
Fighter: We will only know when we continue on our journey through the crypts of Warcry.

The only event probably would be when "Love is in the Air" (If he/she is lonely). :P He probably just wanted all his characters to be level 80 & decked out..

He probably lost a roll on the new Proto-Drake mount, then thought getting all emo with a GM would get them to do what he wants, just like a 2 year old crying for his toy. Im glad to hear the police were called, and I hope hes baker acted.

I agree. It sounds much more like a temper tantrum than an actual 'plea for help'. Geez...

I don't know why a kid would ever think something like that would work. Sometimes people act way too fast. Always think things through before you go and make a total ass of yourself.

I hope his dad is a huge redneck and took a hammer to his son's computer. He'd be doing the world a favor.

If I was the person he spoke too I would not have taken it seriosuly enough to call the cops I would've just rejected his offer and stopped contacting him.

I report badge farmers so that way they can't get their precious Matrix badges, among others. Abide by our rules, and do not spam up areas just because you think they're dead. I read dead areas frequently to report badge farming, as it's strongly frowned upon, and necroing is against the rules.

Stuff like that is bad for business though; if he really was going to commit suicide and Warcraft just ignored him, it would be on the news and all the house mom's would be saying "Wow, sometimes when people play this game they get so upset they commit suicide. My son/daughter cannot play this."

Not saying that that's fair, but it's the truth. The man from Blizzard called the cops because he did not want the kid to hurt himself.

Yeah, but with the ammount of times crap like that happens it really shouldn't be taken seriously in a situation where they're begging for something then start talking about killing their selves.

This story is an example of just how serious some players take their games, how serious this concern is and how serious the gaming companies are forced to take it. It really shouldn't be taken so lightly when people have psychological problems such as depression or even an obsession with life inside fantasy game. This is a growing concern around the world. It might affect anyone at any time.

Stuff like this is why I am glad i don't play WoW anymore. Nothing in the game is important enough to threaten suicide over. People need to realize it is just a game and try going outside once in a while.

I'd tell him to record it and send me the video. No other good comedies have come out lately, except "Yes Man."

Why is it that the voice in my head refuses to get me a cupcake?

he was definitely just wanting something, probably was being banned or wanted something but at least it taught him a lesson, people that threaten stuff like are mostly just wanting attention

Normally I'd say this was too far-fetched, and wouldn't believe it; But due to events in the past few years: Damn! The world is going nuts.

Yeeeeeees my boys.
