So, the world's strongest particle accelerator is going with it's first collision on Sep10.
Some of you might know of the controversy about this, but basically some skeptics are afraid that during the collision a certain particle might be created that is the basis of a black hole, and then suck the entire Earth onto itself.
Either way, if you have something important to do, get it done before Sep10 ;)

Thanks for the warning, I'll keep my schedule clear for that day so that incase the Earth gets sucked into a black hole I'll be able to enjoy it.

dident i already post about this? lol heres the thread http://www.warcry.com/forums/read/12.62615

Before they dropped the atomic bombs on Japan the scientists at Los Alamos labs had to compile a report for the Presidents desk detailing why they were sure the bombs wouldn't "set the atmosphere on fire" and start a chain reaction that would burn the whole world to ash.

Lesson for today: Scientists sometimes worry about silly things.

they've set so many dates for the thing to go live, i'm beginning to doubt they'll do it this year.

Last time there was a rather nasty accident with a couple of stray particles blowing a hole in the side of a chamber.

well steven hawking did say it would create black holes, small ones, but that our earths magnectic force would destroy them. Its realy a double edged sword though, because both the doomsday perspectives and the views of those who down play them, are all based on..THEORY, not fact.

What concerns me is that this is the most complex thing ever built by man. Yet it's set up in the hops of viewing an elusive particle called the Higgs Boson that may or may not exist.

If it doesn't, it has been a colossal waste of money. 90% of the other experiments they have planned for it could be done with a standard linear accelerator.

but at the same time it could lead to totaly new discoveries, with even stranger names. Or maybe Dr.Evil will use it to hold the world ransom, for 1 MEEEEELION DOLLORS!

speaking of steven hawking, i bet in the back of his mind hes pissed off that we could create such complex things, yet we cant make him walk =/

damn that's just 2 days before my 23th birthday...

Oh noes!!! The oh so relavant 23rd birthday! Tell you what, I'll let you have mine. I wasn't using it anyway...

:-P

EPIC! I actually understand it now O.O

23 = 2/3 = .666 = Le gasp!

got into the doomsday debate on mmorpg.com forums over this, and some talked about the "world ends on 2012" idea, followed by someone saying a stable black hole formed from the machine would take almost 50 months to develop into a world ender, this was followd shortly by a post pointing out the 50 months would place the 2012 theory right on track.Burry head in the sand time. O and clear your bank account and bang hookers often, worlds ending after all.

LOL

any black holes produced would be no bigger than the combined size of the 2 particles involved in the collision. I think a black hole the size of 2 protons would die pretty fast, especially since the chambers will be relatively empty apart from the 2 colliding particles, so there'll be nothing for it to eat to sustain itself.

Ow, my brain.

Beams were successfully steered around the entire LHC ring today. Collisions start in a month or so.

Where was the kaboom?

There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom! :(

the kaboom may happen between now and 2 years.

lawl... duck dodgers...

damn - im not dead... maybe next time...

maybe when they start colliding we'll all die, something to look forward to.

On a related note, here's a live webcam feed from the LHC http://www.cyriak.co.uk/lhc/lhc-webcams.html

tis quite interesting, you can see folks milling around and stuff.

lol... I was about to say "That would be awesome to watch when the thing explodes" ...

I'M ALIVE !!HAHAHAHAHAHA I'M ALIVE...

Yea we will have to see about the black holes and stranglets when they actually smash stuff.

Aww I thought that was about some noob hackers pwning themselves =(

Guys it's not going to blow up the world.

Skullbreaker:
Guys it's not going to blow up the world.

it's going to suck the world. (ieuw..)

lawlz.

if you ever want to check to see if the world has ended yet refer the the site below.

has the large hadron collider destroyed the world yet?

Our lives have been extended by 2 months! The LHC is out of commission!

i assumed this was due to last weeks hacker attack, cuz people who know nothing about such a complex machine can mess alot of stuff up even if there just pokeing around. But a "faulty connection" , meh, expect to hear a simmilar, "minor issue" report when the black holes start devouring existance. =p

probably the black holes already happened...

We have already been sucked into them, spat out, then they sucked themselves into themselves until they reversed three times and sucked so much they antisucked.

And therefor we lost interest and it never happened.

TeH end.

So....continuing to read up on the story, it turns out they won't be doing anymore tests for a while :<
