Hold out for DoW 2, should be awesome.

The Ultra Joe set this signature the day he joined. He had faith they would one day let him display it.

Note: Then he discovered that this account also works on Warcy. He feels silly.

I'm playing Act of War: Direct Action. It's a nice RTS that hasn't got a lot of exposure and press. The units are balanced well, the graphics are good, and I like the modern day setting. Although it is very similar to Command and Conquer 3 (Not Red Alert, but C&C 3... and yes there is a difference), this game is actually fun. Infantry actually matters in this game, they're not just canon fodder.
Having a team of Abrams tanks steamroll through city blocks, with teams of Delta force soldiers being choppered in by Black hawks on the rooftops... its awesome.

Is it like generals?

Kinda like generals, but better in my opinion. There is an expansion that came out called Act of War: High Treason, and I heard the single player campaign offers some really challenging scenarios.
The only way you can get the game is online though, probably from like Direct2Drive or soemthin.

C&C 3 and Kane's Wrath are officially awesome. Balanced to hell, beautiful and amazing story modes.

If your looking for a space type strategy, check out Sins of a Solar Empire. Imagine Civ 4, Masters of Orion 2, mixed together except the game plays in real time instead of turn base.
I tried playing it, and it was way complicated for me. But if you like those types of games, I'd recommend at least checking it out.

As for me, the more I play Act of War, the more I'm starting to appreciate the game. It reminds me of C&C Generals, but its not like it. It's not the strategy game where you can make a squad of Tanks and just bulldoze the enemy. It's a strategy game that, dare I say it, actually involves strategy.

Agree Sins of a Solar Empire is execellent but be prepared to waste a few days of your life playing, it is massive and thats an understatement.
If you also like older RTS then most definatly play Age of Empires 2 Age of Kings or anything beyond that.

I'm asking for some good RTS cause I've already played all these "old" ones. Probably all of them that are worth mentioning, Lemony, but thanks.

And leecho, thanks so much! I've read an article about Sins of a Solar Empire in PC gamer some time ago, and then forgot the name and could never find that magazine again >.< But now you've found it! Gonna go get it right away. 4X + RTS = <3

Two thumbs up for Sins of a Solar Empire.

Only problem is, it can get very repetitious after several epic campaigns (I went with the largest and biggest universe and planet options... took ages of fun time).

Still fun for those sick of pseudo-RTS games, and aching for some good'ol meticulous planning and plotting tactics.

From what I recall, fleet caps are tied to map size, available assigned Fleet Supply and specific ship and economy researches. The supply cap is drained for every ship built, which can be increased at the cost of resources and a higher upkeep.

Wiki says:

Fleet Supply

An empire's Fleet Supply limits the number of ships that it can control at any one time. Each ship costs a certain number of supply points. Refer to the list of Ship Types for the exact supply cost of each ship design. In order to raise your supply point total, an empire must Research additional levels of Global Fleet Supply under the Fleet Logistics research section.

Global Fleet Supply

All ships other than strikecraft require fleet supply to operate. The amount of supply required by a ship varies significantly depending on the ship.Global fleet supply is increased by completing research in the supply tree under the Fleet Logistics section of research.

At the beginning of every game, empires start with one hundred available fleet supply. Each level of research completed allows an empire to sustain more ships. In addition to this, each level of research imposes a permanent drain on an empire's total income. Later upgrades are more significant than earlier upgrades.

First Level - 100 Fleet Supply, 0% Upkeep (Starting)
Second Level - 250 Fleet Supply, 9% Upkeep
Third Level - 400 Fleet Supply, 18% Upkeep
Fourth Level - 550 Fleet Supply, 28% Upkeep
Fifth Level - 820 Fleet Supply, 38% Upkeep
Sixth Level - 1090 Fleet Supply, 47% Upkeep
Seventh Level - 1360 Fleet Supply, 56% Upkeep
Eighth Level - 1680 Fleet Supply, 66% Upkeep
Ninth Level - 2000, 75% Upkeep (Final Upgrade)

And yes, many have complained about the limited cap, especially in the huge map expanses and the time it takes to amass and travel in between, but the developers stated it is there to level the ground and eliminate zerging (especially online). Even though we do love zerging :P

Ah, I have to research it. I was looking around for structures or upgrades. Well, I haven't played much yet but with 2000 as the absolute cap, I think that should be enough.

Say, are there many people playing it online?

I think there is a decent playerbase following for this game. SoaSE is a cult item, you should try hooking up online.

That's a good description of Sins.... Another problem with it is that it doesn't have any campaign mode at all (which Stardock plans to rectify when they release an expansion pack for the thing).

However, Sins of a Solar Empire is still one of the very best RTS games out there, and is worth buying.

I love Sins very much. It is definitely a game that is hard to stop once you get it going.

Those who beg for mercy are not worthy of it.
