MMO Groups... Why?

Why is it that no matter what mmo I play the PUGs are all made up of two kinds of people? The first kind are the ones who have no idea what the hell they are doing and you wonder if they bought their character off of ebay, because they seem to not know even basic movement. The second kind are the know it all asses, who study everything down to the most detailed mathematical advantage possible and think everyone else is a retard if they are not completely optimized for performance. Where is the gray area? People who know how to play the game, but are not so anal as to break the game into math equations and take the fun out of it by optimizing it beyond playability?

DM: From the deepest crypts crawls the undead thread, it's death rattle shakes you to your core. What foul necromantic forces brought forth this foul beast.
Cleric: I attempt to turn undead.
DM: You can't this is a WoW forum D&D magic does not work here.
Cleric: Well guys we are @#$%*%!
Wizard: Agreed, I believe this Necrothread was created by a dread ForumLych, impossible to stop, without a sense of humor.
Fighter: Very well I throw a badge or some other posting reward down at the necrothread and prepare a tactical retreat.
DM: The necrothread pauses at your offer, snaps up the reward and slinks off deeper into the internet.
Rogue: Phwew! That was close... I wonder if there are even more ancient Necrothreads ahead of us?
Fighter: We will only know when we continue on our journey through the crypts of Warcry.

I refuse to play MMOs because of that very thing. There is a gray area, but they seem to realize how stupid MMOs actually are quite swiftly. And maybe they just don't talk as much?

Funny, because this is why i ended up makeing my own guild, and i keep the amount of members very low. Not because I dont want a big guild, but because that "grey area" you spoke of is indeed quite small, and plucking people from it to join me is ...well, like recruiting black cowboys. T he end result is awsome though, zero drama, zero QQ, and lots of group fun.

I'm more so the grey area, but I'm still an asshole. I make fun of the people who refuse to read the tutorial, like in Imagine we had someone ask how to open their inventory screen. Then I make fun of the uptight know it alls and try to make them feel like they've wasted as much of their life as possible.

I report badge farmers so that way they can't get their precious Matrix badges, among others. Abide by our rules, and do not spam up areas just because you think they're dead. I read dead areas frequently to report badge farming, as it's strongly frowned upon, and necroing is against the rules.

This is one of the reasons I enjoyed playing a healer. I had complete control over the group, and if someone's being out of line and pissing me off, I just stopped healing them.

In WoW, where these peple run rampant, I usually just do everything alone, or with my brother who would tank, so we pretty much ran every PUG we were in.

Same deal with myself and Noleafclover Chi. She's a tank, i'm heals - if people are morons we can replace them easily. It's a lot harder to replace a tank or healer than a DPS.

That's why I've been playing healers and tanks lately in whatever MMO I pick up. Makes life a whole lot easier.

my best friends in WOW= druid (dps or heals) and a hunter (dps /cc), and im a warrior (tank or dps). So, basicly all we look for is dps which is everywhere. This is why ive been able to keep a zero drama guild. Once people join, they see how we have most bases coverd without them, and ether they are cool, and enjoy it, or there pricks and get DA BOOT!. You can make a solid group like this in any game, just have to treat it like speed dateing, you give anyone a chance who dosent seem like an asshole, and thats there only chance, they act like fool, u drop them and move on. Especialy in WOW where there so many people, u can "hire and fire" so quickly and easily, its only a matter of time to build a group of cool people.

I guess in the end though it still involves alil patience, cuz like any team oriented activity, the more people you need for the task, the more likely you will be to compromise alittle just to fill the spots.
So if your just chillen doing 5-10 man stuff, you can build a 100% no bullshit cool group easy, anything above that will take alot of effort and luck, as far as consistant quality in the players personalities.

In my history of mmo's, I've come to the conclusion that I only meet lasting friends (enough to make a daily team) in game i play for more then 2 years. Most games ive played less then that i just solo as far as possible then quit.My guess, is that this is due to certain desirable goals compelling me to seek out reliable dependable help. It's amazing how social you can be when you want something.

Nonsense, he's one of the first to sign up. Though all of his posts are "hi".
What's with us getting spammers lately?

I'm in the second group because as a 'good tank' you have to know damn near everything since your the one doing all the work next to the healer - the DPS is along for the ride and free gear.

But I'm not ass about it either unless said people are truly dumbasses - and I've run into my fair share.

Agreed.

Reason why I quit my warrior. Hate tanking pugs.

I need a new tank, my brother is shelfing his Warrior to get his Rogue to 80 since we're tired of struggling in the arena as a crappy class pair.
