Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has only just begun to compete with World of Warcraft, says Mark Jacobs, Mythic's CEO, who commented "It's a marathon, not a sprint."
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Jacobs took issue with comments made by Paul Sams, Blizzard's COO, that over half of the subscribers who left World of Warcraft for Warhammer Online had returned, which Mythic's CEO interpreted to as an accusation Warhammer users were leaving the MMO.
"One thing about MMOs is that people play multiple games," asserted Jacobs. "That's one of the reasons I was very surprised by Paul's comments. He knows that people may play WoW and they'll play WAR and maybe even a third game at the same time."

To be fair, he does have a point. All Blizzard knows is that people are resubscribing. They have no way of knowing whether or not people have cancelled Warhammer.
Yea, seems like Paul Sims is talking out of his ass. How could he possibly know where his subscribers are "coming from". I would think the goons at WoW are all resubscribing for WotLK. And has nothing to do with anything else.
On another note: Why leave War for WoW...they're the same game.
Eh, I wouldn't quite call them the same game, Hemi. Different foci, anyway.
And when you cancel your WoW subscription, you have the option to select from a (fairly lengthy, actually) list of reasons why you're cancelling. I wouldn't be surprised if Warhammer had been listed, so they actually WOULD be able to see what accounts are being reactivated, that listed Warhammer as their reason for quitting.
I don't know about half the world, but I certainly quit WoW for WAR. And I couldn't be happier about it. WoW is terribly unbalanced, and the designers don't care. In all fairness, why should they? Not like they are going out of business any time soon. Which is also probably why WAR has excellent care and customer service. They know they still need it to try and keep up.
I personally hope WAR holds its own. In my eyes, WoW = Bush, WAR = Obama :P

Must disagree. WoW is more like a chat messanger service with a game attached. WAR seems a lot less social than WoW, probably due to the population differences. Or maybe I suck at making friends.
EDIT: Oh cool, my signature exists here. So awesome.

So they are different because of the amount of people that play? WTF?

And don't rez old threads.
But he's gotta get the Forum Vagabond badge man!
Actually, considering the amount of time I pour into MMOs, I figured I might as well check this place out.

...I didn't even notice the timestamp. Sorry about that. No, I meant, WoW seems to have a much larger focus on the social aspects of the game, though I haven't played for quite a while. WAR is more focused on...well, the war. The PvP, or, I guess, RvR, is the main draw of the game. WoW is much more...casual? Anyway, if I were here for just "teh badge," wouldn't I just say "lol agree" and duck out?

Ahh! I always seem to forget the highly coveted Vagabond Badge.

Fair enough. You're posts have been of far greater quality then some of the recent ones we've seen, and it seems like it's starting to get to some of us.

Welcome to WarCry.
Thank you kindly. I'll try not to resurrect ridiculously old threads in the future.

NP. I have seen threads more than a year old rezzed with a flame, lol.
This one wasn't THAT old(I was just being an ass).

Nah...I lived with Tibetan monks until I was seventeen. For breakfast, we got beatings. For lunch, stabbings. For dinner, we got bandaids made of salt. Nothing can beat that. Nothing. Actually, no, I'm not even seventeen and I'm pretty sure that breaks some serious laws about child abuse, but the point is, it's cool. If I had a steady influx of people coming to wherever I hung out just for a reward elsewhere, I'd probably throw petrol on every person from that place.

The oldest I think I've seen rezzed by the equivalent "lol agree" was 3 or 4 years old.
Slightly on-topic, WAR is in much better shape then it was 4-5 months ago, but it still has a long way to go to become a proper successor to DAoC. I think I would still prefer that they made DAoC 2 though.
Its kinda sad that while we all thought Warhammer will get millions of people and challenge wow it actually declined in the way of subscriptions, but its still a great game, might just not have been the right timing for a new fantasy mmorpg when it came out.
If life gives you lemons, squeeze the them like a madman!
They shoulda went with the 40k setting, I think it would have at least been something a bit different. Fantasy sort of saturates the market. Oh well with WAR downsizing it seems less likely we will ever see a 40k MMORPG.
DM: From the deepest crypts crawls the undead thread, it's death rattle shakes you to your core. What foul necromantic forces brought forth this foul beast. Cleric: I attempt to turn undead. DM: You can't this is a WoW forum D&D magic does not work here. Cleric: Well guys we are @#$%*%! Wizard: Agreed, I believe this Necrothread was created by a dread ForumLych, impossible to stop, without a sense of humor. Fighter: Very well I throw a badge or some other posting reward down at the necrothread and prepare a tactical retreat. DM: The necrothread pauses at your offer, snaps up the reward and slinks off deeper into the internet. Rogue: Phwew! That was close... I wonder if there are even more ancient Necrothreads ahead of us? Fighter: We will only know when we continue on our journey through the crypts of Warcry.
