UOE is a highly customized Pre-Trammel shard that focuses on a territorial guild combat system. It takes advantage of the pre-AoS pvp mechanics. It introduces a new level of meaningful combat in a UO Emu where guilds contend over regions of the map on a weekly basis. Ownership of one of these regions affords access to exclusive items, acquired in an exclusive Hunting Ground. Actual pvp mechanics are primarily unchanged with the exception that players are granted insta-GM skill levels upon original character creation.
A player interdependent economy/production system is introduced as well. Character races are created that bare no impact on pvp, yet have everything to do with the crafting system. For instance, only Gnome characters can Tinker pickaxes and shovels. Only Half-Orc characters can take the Mining skill and only Dwarf characters can take the Smithing skill. Thus, for a pvp player to obtain an Exceptional weapon, they must acquire it from a dwarf GM Smith who gets his ingots from a GM Half-Orc who gets his tools from a Gnome who gets his ingots again from the Half-Orc. Limiting player accounts on the number of characters they can create promotes a system of production in which players must engage in trade and politics to be successful.
UOE does sample from a small number of commodities that made subsequent UO expansions interesting. For instance, custom housing is available in addition to crafting BODs and dyetubs. The client does take advantage of the expanded and improved AoS character models as well. And some, very few portions of the Trammel map are used with Felucca rules.
Some of the guiding principals behind the development of UOE are:
1. Meaningful PvP with consequences experienced by aggressors and defenders. 2. Non-Linear PvM(PvE) with proportional Risk vs. Reward without the infamous "Level Grind". 3. A sense of power. Players want their actions to have an impact on the gaming community, their Guilds and character, as well as the landscape in which they play.
One of the cooler factors is that members who have played as both Guild [Red] and KoA, the premier guilds of UO Lake Superior shard are both developing and playing UOE. The developers are always listening to the playerbase and strongly encourage respectable feedback on future development from all of our community members. |
