merging servers? Isnt that only done when the server population is that low that players spend days trying to find another player online ? Subscription numbers falling back that fast then ?
It is also done when both US and European players are disatisfied with the fact they are segregated instead of being allowed to play together.
I think he means servers that both the US and European servers will be merged within themselfs and will still remain segregated. At least this is what I get from reading it.
Agreed. This is usually the beginning of the end...how far out the end is remains to be seen. This comes as no surprise to me at all, the game was broken from day one and has been a whirlwind of band-aid patches/updates since. I hope Funcom(and EA) learn their lesson and stop shoving unfinished games out the the door. Why would Euro and NA players want to be on the same servers? The time difference is too great. Where the hell is Dirk? He was shootin' his mouth off about how "packed" the servers are...
Thanks magdalene2008! I added this news post to the site. As far as merger, we've seen all this before, with game publishers over estimating the initial population and player commitments. That said, it's usually a good move for the current population, and ushers more activity and interaction. I do hope that AoC overcomes it's shortcomings, and grows upon its own niche over time.
Ohhh I am here... The servers are still packed go and have alook on AoC forum instead of assuming. There are 4 low popservers (the last ones that got added in last second as AoC subscribers skyrocketed through 800000 customers), which will be merged into the 20 other servers. If you wonder if AoC is gaining subscribers just look to Xfire. 15% more gameplay this friday over last friday.
Not to poke a stick in anybody's eye, but I was curious after you mentioned XFire and decided to check their site and stats. Seems like there's been a steady decline over the last few weeks with small weekend bumps along the way. It's sad to see this title go from its 4th position to 39th on the XFire game list. =/ Even thought not everyone uses XFire, it's still an interesting barometer for popular games.
Owned. | |
lol position 41 today, i can see its really booming!
It is official. According to Xfire, solitaire is more fun than AoC. That's a kick in the cupcake, lemme tell ya.
Let me tell yah, if everyone who plays Solitaire uses XFire, it'll PAWN every game out there to the top. Nothing can compete.
Well, not everyone who uses Xfire plays solitaire, apparently. And besides, I was only thinking up an excuse to mention cupcakes.
Wow. I feel really sorry for the team that worked on and developed AoC right now. :P
I find the degree of cookie fanatics slightly disturbing in this Age of Cookies forum
Cupcakes, Nightfreak. The_Oracle's opinion on cookies is irrelevant. Cupcakes are GOD! ALL HAIL THE MAGNIFICENT GOD OF CUPCAKEDOM!
Dirk, can you get us some screenshots of these fatalities? Images can do more justice than words.
I originally loved AoC, especially the fighting, but after level 20 things went downhill. I started with several friends and after two months we had all quit, most of them went back to WoW, so I'm not suprised that they're merging the servers.
Age of Conan developer Funcom has said that it plans to merge the game's servers in a bid to create a healthy future for the massively multiplayer online title.
Earlier this month co-founder of Funcom Gaute Godager stepped down from the company after becoming dissatisfied with elements of the game following launch.
"I can today confirm that we are actively working on an approach to merge servers, both in Europe and North America," stated director Craig Morrison in the game's official forums.
