I don't really see how you could not have heard about this if you play the game at all, but...

As we all know Band of Brothers (BoB) was disbanded some time ago by Goonswarm. After doing so, the Goons effectively "stole" the BoB ticker by starting a corp with the same name. Much like making an alt with a name you use frequently in most MMO's in order to keep other players from using it. We have all done this and although it is kind of childish, it is not against any rules or EULA.

The members of BoB, for the most part, joined one of their alt/pet corps(KenZoku) to save some sov. and 2 months has past. Now they want their name changed to Band of Brothers Reloaded.

CCP has granted their request, at the same time allowing them to keep all of thier sov. This is a clear violation of the rules and blatant favoritism on CCP's part...AGAIN. After the T20 dev scandal that involved BoB, I am amazed at the balls of CCP. Please show your support for the disbanding of Band of Brothers Reloaded by voting in favor of the petition linked here:

WOOT!!

With 1400+ votes supporting the disbandment of the newly created "Band of Brothers Reloaded"(formerly KenZoku), CCP has reversed their earlier decision and decided to disband the new corp.

Power of the people man!

You know, this is what the player council was formed for. To keep CCP in line. Have they commented on this at all?

Ooh, I was wondering how that all would pan out.

It seemed there were three types of people who posted in that thread:

1. Disband them! Same rules for everyone.

2. Oh, don't be harsh; just make them change the name back.

3. It's a horrible, evil game mechanic that an alliance can be disbanded at the drop of a hat. Just completely unfair and mean....And CCP isn't showing us favoritism, they've never showed us favoritism.

10 guesses as to who the #3 people are every single time.

"Have they commented on this at all?"

Not as far as I know, but it all happened rather fast. The petition was started 3/23 at 10:51 p.m. EVE time and was resolved today 18:39 EVE time.

Haven't read anything on the official boards from them yet. I am pretty burnt out from reading about 2400 posts in one thread, so could have easily missed something, lol.

boy there was alot of heat over it and eventually CCP cited the fact that KenZoku had existed for months prior to the name change request as their reason for ultimately disbanding the new alliance. Which, to me sounds like complete BS, as they new damn well how long ago that alliance had been formed. Was an easy way to save face I guess.

Perhaps they just tried to show some compassion for BoB, because as Jamanitcus says, it is a rather absurd game mechanic that lets the entire powerhouse of BoB be destroyed with just a single click of a button.
And when the crowd saw this as favourtism and yelled back, they just decided "screw this, this is what we get for trying to be nice?".
It's really a little like you biting the hand that feeds you. Of course no hand should be feeding anyone in an MMO, but CCP is well-known for interacting with the player-base on a more personal level.
If there never was the fiasco with BoB and the BPOs, or perhaps if this just happened to another alliance entirely, maybe there wouldn't be such a backlash about it.

I agree, except...

When BoB decided to join thier pet corp KenZoku, they did so because they could immediatly start gaining Sov back. If they had formed a new corp they would have had to wait the 7 days. This is what most people were pissed about.

They had 2 choices, build a new alliance from scratch or join one that already had Sov and get a jumpstart. They chose the latter and lost the ability to "get a cool name". To allow them to change the name of an existing alliance as well as keep Sov was BS.

And I don't know about you, but 'KenZoku' sounds a ton more cool than 'Band of Brothers Reloaded'.

I think they had people at director level in BoB that just walked off with a lot of stuff.

Just like the Guiding Hand incident... (quote is from another forum linked to the BoB article on the EveWiki.)
speaking of which, didn't some magazine attach an actual dollar amount to the Guiding Hand incident? I wonder if this tops it in dollar amount and about how much it is (i say yeah, 'naughts were stolen. They are high priority targets, neh?)

If somebody decided to ballpark a dollar figure for ex-BoB's entire assets, they'd sh+t their pants.

But the thing is, didn't BoB's pet KenZoku regain the sov? Dunno how much, but they might have saved a lot.

i don't think the regained all of their sov, and i would say 50% may be a tad optimistic... but what do i know? i'm new.
Ah, found the article on the Guiding Hand Incident. The dollar Total associated with that is $16,500 in stolen property and damages, which back in 2005 translated to roughly 30 Billion ISK.
If there is any inflation, and/or the BoB gutting was pricier, then the Goonz just trolled someone for more than 16k.
My guess is that it IS because quite a few of their starbases apparently got lost in the confusion, plus ships and things were plundered.
