Background!

We have lead a guild in almost every major mmorpg that has been out, just not always under the name Ultima because it did not fit the game-lore. Our most recent game has been Lord of the Rings Online. The last time we played under Ultima was Final Fantasy XI, and I am very happy that we can finally play as Ultima again! I originally created Ultima to show everyone that a guild can be successful without being elitist. It has been my experience that top guilds are always full of players who are condescending, immature and hurtful to other players.

I resigned as leader of our LOTRO kinship about a year and a half ago when I started law school at the University of Florida (Go Gators!!!!!!!!!). I swore off mmo's forever! Then I ran into Aion through my girlfriend at the time, who happens to be Korean, a few months ago and started playing on the Korean server Arscarlan. I was immediately hooked! FFXI has always been one of my favorite mmo's and Aion definitely has some FFXI-qualities to it.

Before reading any further, please know that we have made certain decisions based on the rules and capabilities NCSoft has currently set on the Korean side. Will they be exactly the same for EU/NA players? We don't know. Will they be similar? We think so.

So how HARDCORE is Ultima?

I hate labeling guilds as casual or hardcore. Look, this is a game and we all play it to have fun. For some, fun may be to hit level 50 as soon as possible and for others it may consist of hitting max crafting level as soon as possible. Is it logical to label one more hardcore than the other? In our opinion no, it is absurd.

With that being said, we are looking for players that play often; whichever path you may choose in Aion. Our legion's average play time per week is around 100-hours/week, with a few members playing only 50-hours/week and others playing 140-hours/week. We have players from both within and outside of the United States, from countries such as Malaysia and South Korea. You have to enjoy logging in. It shouldn't feel like a chore. Our guilds have always felt like after hour parties, with members hanging out even if not playing. For myself at least it has always been about building friendships. I think back to previous games and I doubt many members remember who got what from which raid.

So what's the catch?

Have a mic. I can't believe this still has to be stated. It's 2009! If you are logged in to the game, we would also like you to be logged into Ventrilo; just to increase community participation. Not to mention that group cohesiveness is imperative to successful PvP.

Have a fun personality. Anyone can hit level 50. But, if you are a huge cock-face, no one is going to want to play with you. Ultima requires 100% loyalty and devotion to the legion and then to its members. Of course we recommend you make as many friends as you can on our server and even help out players who are not members of Ultima, but we do require that you choose Ultima's member over non-members, when it comes to any aspect of Aion game-play. Ultima's attrition rate is very low, because Ultima definitely takes care of her own.

Have some initiative. Nothing annoys us more than players who want a piggy-back ride the entire time. This guild/legion is not here to hold your hand to level 50. We all want to play and excel our own characters. Granted, if you have a question please ask, and we will be more than happy to answer, but check the forums first. Everything you need from quest guides to crafting guides will be provided on our forums prior to NA-launch. Ultima players aspire to become some of the best players in the world. In order to achieve this, you have to have a certain attitude towards gaming. If you are one of these players then you already know the type of attitude we are speaking about.

We are not an RP guild as we so popularly advertise, yet we do not discourage it. We picked Elyos because we represent the light. Also, there is no set age limit. 14 or 40, you will be treated as members as long as you follow the member guidelines. The light side always has a tendency to attract a younger crowd so please keep the conversation clean, or at least not so blatantly vile that a little part of us dies.

In the words of my current guild-leader, "1 men : 1 chars." Unless NCSoft makes some changes, we will not be allotting any alt-spaces. That does not mean that you are stuck with the class you first choose when you get invited into the guild/legion. Simply let us know you have changed your preference, and we will remove your current character and invite your new one. We will however be creating a guild for our alts as well, but the name has not been decided yet.

One thing I should mention is that, should you be accepted into Ultima, you should be ready for a lot of "HATE" directed towards you from other players and legions alike. This is something that all successful guilds/legions endure. It is only natural for the vast majority to feel threatened and go into a defensive mode. You will read countless flame threads on legions such as Ultima, and our play-style, and commitment level. It is not for everyone and we are not forcing it onto anyone. None the less you will see many comment on it continuously. It just comes with the territory, and you will have to accommodate to it.

But why Ultima?

There will be a lot of good legions in Aion, there is no denying that. And, anyone who is already claiming their legion will be number one and others will fail, is lying not only to you but themself as well. What separates Ultima from many other good legions is our level of commitment. We have been playing Aion since its BETA in Korea. We will have played Aion for an entire year by the time Aion is released in the United States. We always knew we would quit Aion-KR from the time we made our first characters. We did it so we would be able to pass on our knowledge to our members and members of the Aion-US community. We are working on numerous guides, maps and strategies, to save you time and effort. When a legion goes to that extent, that is true commitment.

Ultima's Hierarchy

All members will come in as trial-members. The trial period will last a period of 15-days. During this period if any members disagree with your status, you will be respectfully asked to leave. So it would behoove you to make a good impression and go out of your way to make a connection with the current members. Once you are a member, only the Legion Leader may remove you.

We have 1 sub-class officer for each sub-class; meaning 8-officers. In order to get into the legion you will have to speak to your specific sub-class recruiter. Anyone may put in a good word for you, but may not over ride a recruiter's decision or the Legion Leader in the over all process. The reason for this rule is that we pick or ask someone to be a leader of their sub-class because we believe they are the most knowledgeable regarding that subject matter.

We also have a Public Relations coordinator; you know her as Babaganooshi or Sunuoow on these forums. All questions or posts, in public forums or in game will be referred to her. We don't want our members giving out incorrect information or even getting involved with online forum wars, flaming other guilds/legions back and forth, as commonly happens in PvP oriented games. They will also be in charge of maintaining the forums and god knows I don't want to maintain any forums!

Last but not least, we have one Legion Leader. We have always had a very democratic approach to leading guilds, but the leadership's decision is final no questions asked. For better or for worse we are micromanagers and try to do as much as we possibly can by ourselves. You will notice from day one that we care very much for Ultima and its members.

You had me at Ultima!

P.S. Feel free to come chat with us on vent, regarding any questions about Aion or Ultima. We have been playing Aion-KR for almost 1-year so we should be able to answer pretty much any questions you may have. Plus, we always love discussing Aion game mechanics and theorycrafting. You will only have access to the guest areas, so please put (Guest) or something else in your comment, letting us know you would like to speak to someone or be moved to a different channel. Thanks.
