First Impressions on the game

I recently started this game only in open beta. I have never played the closed beta, so I can only give my impressions on the current build.

I've levelled up my character to level 20, which many say is the start of the actual experience, since you can recruit more mercenaries.I found the game to be polished and very promising. As an avid player of many MMORPGs, I've come across my share of both the bad and the good. I can say this game is definitely on the good side.

The first thing you will notice about this game is the turn-based combat system - unique among most MMORPGs. The system lets you control up to 8 mercenaries, in addition to your main character. Each mercenary has his own unique attack and magic ability. For example, spearmen can hit multiple targets in a column, while archers can attack anybody... even the ones at the farthest row. Both player and enemy have an allotted time to execute their moves. The combat system is pretty fun, and levelling doesn't seem like a chore compared to some other games.

The graphics are very good. Characters are highly detailed, and feature well-done costume as well. The background and scenery depict historical places like Sapporo and Beijing, while at the same time mixing some futuristic elements to fantasy-style countryside.

Quests are also a large part of the game. They can range from killing minibosses to gathering certain number of ingredients. You earn a lot of money and experience from doing these quests. The very very useful auto-move function of the game helps people concentrate on the most important parts of these quests rather than on moving around aimlessly.

Although I have yet to experience pvp, both on a small-time scale and on large warfare, the descriptions of controlling cities and towns look promising, and may turn out to be epic.

It has its share of controversial issues, true - like stamina and scrolls. However, this game is still in beta, so input and advice will always be considered.

Here is my character so far:

I like your review as well. I thing I like about Atlantica is definitely it's turn-based combat. It is what uniquely sets the game apart from other MMORPGs out. What I also like about this game is that it's not all about grinding since there are other things you can enjoy in the game as well. Such as crafting! I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoy crafting!:)

Nice review. I also play atlantica and find it unique from MMORPGs out there. You had already pointed out in the review some of the elements I like about the game, but I just want to add other points you left out. The game's design lets players not to concentrate entirely in level-up such as other MMORPG that would turn playing time to more than an errand's work. lolz. I talking about the political system that guild master can control towns and eventually create countries. And the in-game supply and demand of items and materials are another innovation that makes item have more value, unlike other MMORPGs. To name a few.

Also, I would just want to post an additional Atlantica Online review that I had encountered while searching more about this game. Its a simple and sweet review about what game generally is. Its short and concise, so its worth to look at.

I wanted to play this game until I saw all the fans were adbots, it totally turned me away from ever playing the game.

DM: From the deepest crypts crawls the undead thread, it's death rattle shakes you to your core. What foul necromantic forces brought forth this foul beast.
Cleric: I attempt to turn undead.
DM: You can't this is a WoW forum D&D magic does not work here.
Cleric: Well guys we are @#$%*%!
Wizard: Agreed, I believe this Necrothread was created by a dread ForumLych, impossible to stop, without a sense of humor.
Fighter: Very well I throw a badge or some other posting reward down at the necrothread and prepare a tactical retreat.
DM: The necrothread pauses at your offer, snaps up the reward and slinks off deeper into the internet.
Rogue: Phwew! That was close... I wonder if there are even more ancient Necrothreads ahead of us?
Fighter: We will only know when we continue on our journey through the crypts of Warcry.

Guys there is an upcoming update for Atlantica this Dec 16, that will include an additional MAP. I'm guessing it would be the Americas. I guess its worth to explore since the in-game theme is set at the ancient period of the world.

I haven't played much, but I've liked what I've played so far. The battle mechanic's are definitely unique and offer a refreshing change from other MMO's. So far it feels far less like I'm grinding and far more like I'm just enjoying one fight at a time. The only problem I've really had so far is that it really doesn't feel like I'm playing with other people, but then I haven't even hit level 20 yet, so the experience is bound to change.

Most of my plans end with "it seemed like a good idea at the time"
