Affliction warlocks build a growing wave of damage over time, and Shadow Priest are even more so. Shadow priests have no real burst to speak of and the primary spriest skills seem to center on obsessive timer watching. I don't know about Shamans, but my understanding is that Destruction warlocks and Arcane mages do the big burst damage among the casters. By the way, I'm pretty new too. One thing to know is you might pick a class and go with one spec for leveling at first, then switch to a different spec further on. Welcome to Planet Toilet. Here's your brush. |

I was on dusknoir.net, a shadow priest site, and they were looking at the DPS output on the shadow priest class. The application of Haste to shadow priest DoTs and cooldowns has apparently had a serious effect. If 3.3 leaves shadow priests as they are in the build, face-melting is going to become very rewarding from a DPS perspective. But they still won't be burst damage. Spriests are DoT-farmers first and foremost. They are also notoriously gear-dependant for their power. If you want to go for burst DPS in a caster, you are looking at mages and warlocks. Hunters do a ton of DPS too, but I'm not sure you'd call them casters. Ranged certainly, but caster? Dunno about that. Welcome to Planet Toilet. Here's your brush. |

I'm a little bit confused as to what class to play. I was playing a warlock up to level 7 and was told that Warlocks are more of a DOT Steady DPS class, by somebody, who recommended I play an Elementalist Shaman.
But I've read here in the forums that there are a couple of contenders for this, Moonkins, Mages, Hunters.
Somebody on my server even recommended a Shadow Priest.
Any insight into these classes would be appreciated - I'm new and don't really know anything about this game.
I just want to be able to level fast and be somewhat viable/good in PVP lateron. (I don't mind learning a class and playing to its potential.)
