At that level i had one of the Hyenas from the desert in Tanaris. They're good for dps. And quite fast

Get a Gorilla and enjoy the fast lane while levelling by pulling groups of mobs and AOEing them down.

Yep, hunters really only need 2 pets - a gorilla for levelling and a cat for instancing.

Though if you go Beast mastery you'll want to spend some time looking for Loque'Nahak at 80, spirit beasts rock at DPS.

As a non-BM specced hunter, really you should just go with what you like, for levelling there really is no appreciable difference, the same if you aren't a hardcore raider.

Although, while I would have said before that, no pet is really 'best' this was before they added the talent functionality for pets and split them into: Tenacity ('Tanking' pets), Ferocity ('DPS' pets) and Cunning ('Rounded' or 'Utility' pets).

Here's a very excellent website on WoW pets, has listings of all the pets you can tame and ones you can't aswell as detailed info etc. : http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/browse/browse_families.php

If you are BM though, your choice of pet does become quite a bit more important, and you should do a little research on what pet would be best for you, as said above Cats are generally a popular DPS choice in instances.

King Bangalash. That's my favorite pet. I got him in my 40's and used him up to my current level, 74. He's the white tiger with black stripes in Stranglethorn Vale. He's amazing and he looks better than most pets. He's an elite, so use your frost trap before taming. It will help.

Here's King Bangalash's page on petopia.

That used to be kind of true pre-Wrath, however, since they added pet talents, and given that those pets in each group are pretty much standardised (each group shares the same stats), Gorillas aren't really much of a better choice as any other tenacity pet, that is they're all good for levelling. Although, the Gorilla now has 'Pummel' instead of 'Thunderstomp', pummel being an ability that allows it to stop and prevent a spell from a school being cast for 2 seconds, so, it can be useful against caster mobs. But, it's also got a 30sec cooldown, so, it's pretty average.

the stats may be the same but gorilla has the highest threat generation in the tenacity class, making it far superior to the rest of the pets for leveling because thats its main purpose before 80.

other tenacity pets lose threat rather quickly.

Actually, not as such. A big part of a gorilla's threat generation abilities was it's 'Thunderstomp': Shakes the ground with thundering force, doing X Nature damage to all enemies within 8 yards. This ability causes a moderate amount of additional threat.

As I said above, they replaced that with Pummel, which has no such extra threat generation. 'Thunderstomp' was moved into the Tenacity tree and is now a tier 3 talentable ability. Meaning -all- tenacity pets have access to it, you just have to put a talent point into it now.

O_o when did they do that, i havent played in like 2 months i guess i havent heard of that change yet.

well if thats true i suppose that as long as you get a pet with thunderstomp thats all you need.

Get Arikara.

Nothing beats the puff of smoke :3

The 50-50-90 rule. When there's a chance of 50-50 of something going right, there's a 90% chance of it going wrong.
