Short Description:

Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach (abbreviated as "DDO") is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Turbine, Inc. Turbine developed DDO as an online adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons (abbreviated as D&D) based loosely on the D&D 3.5 Ruleset. It is set in the Eberron campaign setting. Internet access is required to play.

DDO features an action role-playing game that utilizes a virtual camera system, similar to Super Mario 64 and Grand Theft Auto III. Progression is defined by completing quests and leveling up. After creating an avatar on the character selection screen, players are required to go through a tutorial, which may be skipped after completing once. Players receive quests from non-player characters. After accumulating enough experience points through quests, the character is entitled to gain a level, which grants access to more feats, spells and skills.

There are currently sixteen levels in the game. Each module has added new quests and areas to explore.

Sigoya,

Now that DDO is free to play with micro transactions available, I'm playing it. It's a blast! I love playing DnD on the table (the really Old School) way and this is the first video game I've found that is really true to the original DnD. I love the fact that it's authentic DnD and not some "dnd based" game like so many RPGs are. I also love that I don't have to pay for the game itself, nor for a subscription if I don't want to. So far, I've done a bit of micro transactions in the game using in-game "points" I've earned by completing certain quests. I might try using real money to buy things later on when I'm further into the game. The cost of points on the DDO store is pretty reasonable compared to some other points systems like Xbox Live and Wii.

I really like being able to have more than one character and to be on more than one server. It's actually helping me out with getting better at my DnD table playing as I can try out lots of different things (different classes, races, weapons, spells etc) in DDO faster than I could ever do with my buddies at the table. I'm hooking up with DDO players on Facebook and will hopefully soon have as good of an online DnD guild going as I do offline.

I'm wondering how many of my fellow Escapists have gotten into DDO, what servers they are on, "toons" they are playing etc, but I hesitate to post such a topic out of fear that another such post has been made and I missed it even after using the allmighty "search button".

If you are playing DDO, what server/world are you on and what is your toon?

I'm on Khyber and my toons are Carex Nutalli a Level 1 Elf Ranger and Arctostaphls Uva-ursi a level 2 Dwarf Cleric. I haven't been playing very long but am really getting into it. I used scientific plant names to avoid getting the "name already in use" error message. Not many people use plant names. On Facebook, I'm a member of a page called OOTS for DDO which was started by a guy who seems to be really into it.

Would you like a jelly baby?
