Newsletter Discussion: Subscription/Microtransactions?

Lately, I've been enjoying a bit of Exteel, which is free to play - but includes a microtransaction option to help gear out your giant fighting robot. This week, we'd like to know:

Which payment option do you prefer for your MMOGs - subscription or microtransaction? Why?

I'm microtransaction all the way, baby. It allows me to put only the funds on my account that I want and can afford. Additionally, the money is there even if I'm taking a hiatus from my play time. I can take 2 months off and the funds will still be in my account when I get back. I'm in control of the amount of money I want to spend and am not forced to pay a monthly fee to keep my account active even if I'm not playing.

For me subscription and microtransactions are complementary systems for pay for a same game, subscriptions for more active players and microtransaction for more casual or only weekends players.

I am against microtransactions for pay for virtual items, that is bad for game development imo, you pay for a sevice not for a virtual property, the only form of microtransaction I like are pay for playtime and/or massive content updates aka expansions.
