Newsletter Discussion: Your Favorite Class?

Specific classes change game to game, but archetypes usually stay the same from the big beefy tanks to the fragile wizards. This week, we'd like to know:

What is your favorite "class archetype" to play in an MMOG?

Personally, I'm all about the mage/wizards. It appeals to the inner child in me that longs to set things on magical fire.

I'm totally a ranged type. I loved, however, in NWN making a ranger/fighter multiclass. But for base classes, I love rangers. :)

I used to always play ranger/archers, but I have recently gravitated to stealth classes, ie rogue, assassin, thief, etc.

I've never been a fan of restricted classes or archetypes, but rather preferred a jack-of-all trades type of gameplay. You'll notice that many MMOs are moving towards an open class system these days due to players' demands for a more free form and open customization.

I prefer playing as a wizard because casting spells from far-away distances always does the trick for when you don't want to get yourself killed fighting a tough monster with only either a staff or dagger.

Myself, I cannot stand mage-type classes in any game. Being restricted by mana, spell choices, and typically weak in close range combat, or if taken by surprise, is just not something for me. I've always enjoyed playing a class that can freely run around the field without worry of getting shot down in a few hits.

i tend to like mage archetypes, because anyone in real life could (hopefully wont) weild a big sword/hammer or some daggers and stab people, but they cant shoot fire out of their hands!
also i like the ranged viewpoint because i can pay attention to more of the battle that way, if you're up close to someone it's hard to see what his buddy is doing or if reinforcements are rushing over the hills.

healers can be fun too. i like to have some power over the lives of my allies as well as the lives of my enemies.

The fighter. I dunno, but it's usually simpler for me. Though, a good ranger is pretty fun too.

After trying out a lot of archetypes the last couple of years, I know that I like the tougher classes the most.
Their role shouldn't really matter much; either Tanking role or some kind of Hybrid.
I just don't like weaker classes or roles. Also I'm a big melee fan!

Luckily there's a tomorrow
