Newsletter Discussion: Your Very First Online Game?

We all had to start somewhere, whether text-based MUD or blockbuster AAA MMORPG. This week, we'd like to know:

What was the first online game you ever played?

Earth & Beyond.

I applied to beta. Got in on that last month or so. I was instantly addicted. Jenquai Explorer. Loved it. So sad when it was canceled.

Ultima Online, pre The 2nd Age. I think I was 7 at the time, and got hooked in Elementary School by my networking teacher. Ahh, rampant griefing. I loved getting my hard-won ore stolen by some 20 something who needed to find meaning in their life through the misfortunes of others.

We need more MMOs like that.

Erm... Jedi Knight?

MMO-wise, then Dark Age of Camelot. I actually got into MUDs after MMOs, amusingly enough.

Ultima Online, best game of all-time. It was towards the end of its life in the mainstream market...I think I was in my late teens. Many nights were spent, yes...getting my ore stolen like dualhammers...but DANG was it fun to kick the crap out of them when I became strong enough! Can't wait for Darkfall Online...hopefully bring back that hardcore PVP and player freedom that todays MMOs desperately need.

The original Diablo. Man that was a great game...except dying and having your stuff spew all over the place in the middle of Hellspawn on level 4 of hell. O.o

But what can beat the heady feeling of hearing your teammates screaming "I"M IN HERE, YOU MORON! KNOCK OFF THE CHAIN LIGHTNING AND FIREBALL!" and then hearing the death scream. :)

Diablo, horrible computer and shitty connection then but still loved it. only bad thing was the amount of item duping and faked items.

For me, it was Silent Death Online. That game was horribly addictive.

Unfortunately, we obviously have some similarities.
