Blizzcon '08: Opening Ceremony With Mike Morhaime

At the Blizzcon '08 opening ceremony in Anaheim, CA, Blizzard founder and CEO Mike Morhaime welcomed con-goers with some information about the con and the games that we'd get to check out - including a playable version of Diablo 3 featuring the game's newly-announced third class: the Wizard.

Lines for everything are horrific, and while the Diablo 3 stuff was interesting to me, I would have liked to have bought a couple of D3 shirts and a messenger bag, at least. No way I'd stand in that store line for four hours to buy a couple of shirts, so I hope that Blizzard will offer these online eventually. Blizzard could sell a lot more and allow participants more time to actually participate if Blizzcon had been a little more organized. I'm going to Disneyland today -- the lines are shorter.

There was a LOT they could have done to sell swag other than what they did. The 'store' is a circular collection of barriers and has twisting, twirling lines that stretch 100 yards from it and then it looks like the back and forth of one's intestines once you're 'in' the store.

Why didn't they create more than one store? Why didn't they allow online sales? Why didn't they spread it out a bit instead of in a circle-the-wagons type set up?

While I want a D3 tshirt and a couple other small things, it ain't worth the two or so hours of my life I'd lose to get 'em. I'll just hope the D3 collector's edition comes with a tshirt.

Sheesh...for a show that is so professionally organized and so seemingly effortless, this one aspect sucks the big one.
