Depending on the situation, level of animosity and purpose/result of the kill. If the PvP seems unfair due to mismatched levels, I find myself leaning towards sparing the poor soul, otherwise a fair kill is a kill to count!
I won't lie, I have no problem ganking another person if he ends up giving even the slightest amount of exp/honor/renown. The so called 'grey' leveled enemys I will generally leave alone unless they attack me first or assist someone who I am trying to kill. Some of the most fun I had with WoW was leveling up when the game first came out and then later the expansion. The leveling allowed dynamic world pvp to take place. It envolved reacting to the enemy no matter the odds, be it running away or fighting and adapting to the terrain around you on the fly. Instanced Battlegrounds don't allow for the same result as after a while everyone has played them a ton of times and they become more then familiar with the area. While I was leveling I did most of it with my brother and we would gank anyone we saw providing they were not a grey level. Didn't matter if you were questing or not, if you were on your own or in a group, you were going to get attacked. The fun came however from provoking the enemy into finding others we had ganked and grouping up with them to fight back. The ganking for me was a means to an end, I enjoyed the real fights but would of had much less of them had we not provoked them in the first place. Doing 2 vs 5 or 6 and coming out the victor due to smart use of terrain and tactics was very satisfying. It didn't always go in our favour but I remember winning a good portion of the overwhelming odds battles and they are probably what I enjoyed the most from the game. Sure some people just wanted to level and didn't bother getting help if they were alone, we were never cruel. No camping or anything just pvped while questing, moved on when we were done.
Depends. Usually, red = dead, but sometimes, if I can tell the person is alone and grinding some terrible task, I let them live. Or I at least wait for them to finish their fight, alert them to myself, wait for them to heal up and get ready, then have a fair fight. But yes, I usually just kill them all on sight.
Do you attack much lower level players as well if they are red to you or only people within your level range?
I dont gank. I will fight someone if they are on a quest but i make sure its at least fairIsh
I despise PKers or Gankers, whatever you like to call them. I call them bullies and cowards. I have no doubt they are bullies and cowards in real life also.
You took the words right out of my mouth. :)
So you guys are saying pk/gankers are in realife bullies and cowards? Thats rather insulting and not very intelligent statement you make there. If a game have open pvp pk/gankers and ANTI just play there role as it should. Do you realy not understand the meaning of games where free for all pvp is posible? I say you guys prolly whine and cry in real life to:p Im ANTI and i play my role in a game same as pk/gankers do, deal with it like i do, fight them if you dont like it. But soon i have my own game Darkfall and hopefully dont have to deal anymore with carebears im sick of those whine and crybabys you ruin the whole fun for us, I wanne play a game as it should be Good vs Evil ROLEPLAY. If you can't take then dont play open pvp games, simple as that. Darkfall you have btw no lvls or classes, so nobody in that game can whine about high lvls ganking them:P
Not necessarily but ganking allows one to release their 'inner bully'. ;) And, Forestdutch? Relax buddy. Everyone has their own preferences.
I agree with forestdutch though, to say gankers/Pk'ers are bullies in game and in real life sounds more of a statement from someone who gets picked on in game and in real life than a fair assumption of the roles in a game. That aside, the only time me and my friends really ganked lowbies was to attract their higher level friends
I generally adopt a "live and let live" policy. Ganking only leads to revenge killing and in an MMO environment that just slows down the progression of all parties involved. That said if anyone goes for me first, they only have themselves to blame when I drop them.
I feel there is a distinct difference between a "PKer" and a Ganker. A PKer will fight/kill other players(hence the PK tag)while Gankers are gutless turds who will run from a fight if it even looks like there is even the slightest chance it might go bad for them. They were the guys who hang outside the gates of Talking Island Village and the rest of the starter towns. As soon as someone showed up even close to their level...poof! Force log. I agree with Jill and Kalia wholeheartedly. I believe when you play a game for countless hours, your true personality comes out in the end and you become known for being a douche in-game, just as you are in real life. I'm a PKer and will fight anyone who wants to, but picking on people who have no chance at all of even hurting me, let alone killing me, is the most gutless "tortures-small-animals" type out there. I always laugh my ass of when I read some story about a shit talking puke getting his face kicked in because they found him IRL. The wheel comes around, sometimes it takes awhile...but it WILL land on you.
Well i disagree here, i've seen more than one, in real life, very friendly persons , pick on lower level chars in game. I guess that in a game you can be whoever you want to be without the normal life restrictions. and more than enough players in games can be asshats one day by killing you during question and dont even bother you the next time. Although people sometimes do take games too seriously which i suppose can lead you to believe the game is a reflection of the real life. But not everyone is like you so at the end of the day people still make their own decision on how to play, carebear or asshat. I think its too simplified to just judge people on their in-game actions Mind you, a pvp feature where you cant kill people who have no chance of defeating you would be a welcome sight /edit seem to have fucked up the quote!
This is something i totally agree on, someone that tries to gank you and fails only has him/herself to thank for the punishment :)
Depends on the situation. - He/she logs out. - My girlfriend calls me.
I generally don't like to gank lower levels. However, if someone is being rude to me or starts killing the things I need to kill, I'll gank them. I mean, if they do /spit 20 times in a row, what am I supposed to do?
